Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities.The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using advanced techniques in industry standard design tools, such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and PLS-CADD. Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.Key ResponsibilitiesSupports engineering teams under general supervisionPerforms technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practicesUses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverablesBegins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering techniciansStay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and proceduresApply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverablesDemonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiativesUse and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and proceduresCreate and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputsPerform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checksCoordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferencesSupport internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and driversProactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processesPreferred QualificationsDiploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.Minimum QualificationsTypically a minimum of 2 years related work experience.
