Address200 Abraham Flexner Way Louisville, KY 40202ShiftFirst Shift (United States of America)Job Description SummaryThe Supervisor shall have a thorough knowledge of Pathology and shall demonstrate proficiency in the skills and practices of the discipline supervised. The Supervisor shall maintain laboratory standards with accrediting bodies including, but not limited to CAP, CDC, CLIA, FDA, JCAHO. He/she shall be responsible for the supervision of the technical and non-technical employees and the operation and administration of the assigned laboratory departments. The Supervisor shall provide training and education for laboratory employees, students, residents, fellows and other employees. Oversees and coordinates operations at University of Louisville Histology Laboratory.Job Description Performs direct observation and ensures competency for all staff supervised. Completes schedules and evaluations for employees supervised. Ensures that all laboratory functions are consistent with Hospital Compliance guidelines. Monitors, trends, and reports all Quality Improvement indicators and Focus Studies timely. Recommends and implements improvements necessary to achieve operational goals and to improve patient outcomes. Monitors quality control and proficiency testing for section supervised. Posts daily quality metrics. Ensures that accreditation standards are met for all sections. Supports and participates in Nursing and Medical Staff committees as needed. Active participation and engagement are required. Monitors internal and external customer service data and trends. Provides direction to staff on issues that impact patient care, satisfaction, and customer service. Develops section strategies to improve customer service. Creates a culture of teamwork. Establishes and leads effective work groups and teams. Communicates to staff consistently. Rounds effectively and consistently on all staff monthly. Monitors employee satisfaction. Develops section strategies to improve employee satisfaction. Completes payroll and documents attendance and tardy documentation. Implements operational efficiencies to save cost for the organization. Supports and meets the goals of the Hospital, Laboratory, and Section Supervised. Demonstrates comprehension of all procedures within the department as defined in the Procedure Manuals. Reviews Manuals annually, revises procedures as necessary. Performs processing, mounting, cutting, staining and cover slipping of tissue samples. Assist with frozen section processing and staining. Assures appropriate procedures are followed in specimen processing, tissue quality and staining. Troubleshoots as necessary. Ensures Quality Control practices are adequate and consistent. Oversees and coordinates operations at ULH and coordinates result workflow. Performs other duties as assigned.III. Individuals who are newly ASCP certified beginning January 2004 must participate in the BOR Certification Maintenance Program.Experience (required And Preferred) Five years of experience in Histology, 10 years preferred Two years of supervisory experience required.
