Job SummaryResponsible for managing the payroll function and team, supporting corporate compliance processes, and establishing/enhancing efficient, automated, payroll processes.Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution preferably in an Accounting related fieldFive years of experience in accounting/ finance/payrollFive years of experience in payroll/HR related functionsFive years of supervisory experienceGeneral knowledge of GAAP, Finance and accounting theoriesProficient in MS ExcelERP and business software experienceBroad experience within Payroll, including garnishments, multi-state taxing, withholding requirementsGeneral experience with HR related transactions including benefits, bonus, and wage changesExperience with certified payroll, desiredUnderstands payroll related general ledger accounts and associated reconciliationsKnowledge of key controls, practices and testing in relation to the internal control framework for payroll processesExperience in developing process narratives and process flowsExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to apply solutions and utilize resourcesExercises good judgement with the ability to balance compliance requirements, employee and business needsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent customer service skillsAbility to prioritize and organize work independently and in a teamApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa sponsorship.Candidate should reside within a commutable distance to the office due to hybrid schedule. We do not offer relocation assistance.Job Duties And ResponsibilitiesSupervisory ResponsibilitiesManages the Payroll teamDevelop professional competencies of direct reportsEstablish goals that guide the team to meet the overall organizational strategyKnowledge and experience with employee related policies and legal requirementsFosters an open and inclusive culturePromotes and requires safe work practicesEnsures exemplary customer service with PowerSecure and Southern business unitsSeeks opportunities for efficiencies and improved processesCommunicates and coordinates work-flows, information, etc with the Human Resources departmentParticipates and contributes to the AFT team and fosters teamworkManages costs/spending for the payroll departmentEnsures an open environment with timely and positive customer service for company employeesTrains or ensures appropriate training for staffEnsures appropriate knowledge resources are available for company employees regarding payroll processesCoordinates with IT to ensure adequate systems, upgrades, and reports are available for payroll processesManages the payroll function, supervises and reviews the work performed and analyzes staffing requirementsReviews payroll related journal entries and accrualsAnalyzes business practices impacting payroll and works with stakeholders to develop, document and improve processesSupports corporate compliance processesEnsure appropriate internal controls and documentation around payroll processesEnsures compliance with certified payroll requirementsEnsures accuracy of the company’s payroll expendituresResponds to information requests from auditors and other parties related to payroll auditsDesigns, evaluates and implements procedures and processes while assessing the need for systematic enhancements in order to increase efficiencyWorking ConditionsThis position is hybridOccasional travel may be required for training or meetings.Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate different time zones (Central/Eastern/Mountain/Pacific), if necessary.Be flexible for after-hours tasks, as needed.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
