Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: ICU Neuro Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years in Neuro ICU License: NC or Compact license required at start Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Minimum 2 years of neuro ICU experience - Strong neuro critical care background - Required skills: Vents, IV Start, Interpretation of dysrhythmias, Management of dysrhythmias, Blood Product Administration, Central line care/management, Continuous IV sedation, CVA/Acute Stroke management, EVD, ICP Monitoring, Post Neurosurgery management, Care of Ventilated Patient, Isolation Precautions/PPE, Lumbar Drain experience Description: This position involves working in a comprehensive stroke center. The patient population includes strokes (ischemic and hemorrhagic), subdural hematomas, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis. Drains used include external ventricular drains, lumbar drains, hemovacs, and ICP monitoring devices. The average daily census in the unit is 11-12 patients with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1, which can flex up to 3:1 during high census situations. Every other weekend coverage is required. The unit plans to offer 36 hours of work per week, and travelers are not required to work holidays, but they must be flexible and may float to different units based on needs. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting. This role is suitable for those with a strong background in neuro critical care, not just general ICU experience.
