Engineering Manager

Summary The Product Engineering Manager will lead the product engineering efforts at Malibu Electronics, LLC (MEL) by planning, directing, managing, coordinating and executing engineering activities and staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Understands and demonstrates Safety as the first priority in all activities; Plans and executes new product development and engineering activities in support of external customer requirements supporting all Malibu Boats, Inc. (MBI) brands and vessels assigned to MEL; Plans and executes revisions, alterations, modifications or changes to existing released products in support of internal and external customer requirements; Responsible for all performance metrics including, but not limited to: project quality, first pass yield, timeline attainment, budget attainment, project status, etc.; Responsible for all aspects of human assets management of the product engineering team to include, but not be limited to: recruitment, hiring, training, career development, project assignment, evaluation, discipline, general management; Provides assistance, guidance, direction and critique to the product engineering team; Provides insights, information, research and challenges the product engineering team to consider the use of new, alternative or enhanced methods of manufacturing or executing engineering roles; Is a source of current information through research, identification, understanding, determining relevance and communicating company, industry, governmental, statutory and regulatory requirements (requirements and advisory in nature) as well as accepted best practices relating to the items being designed; Responsible for the engineering processes and assets in support of product development engineering activities; Leads, guides or participates in continuous improvement activities at the process, product, function, department or organization levels; Responsible for a seamless, cross-functional transition of product projects between engineering, materials, human resources, quality and manufacturing to ensure production readiness at start of production (SOP); Leads or participates in communications with external customers, suppliers or stakeholders as required; Oversees, guides and assists in the documentation supporting manufacturing operations to include but not be limited to work instructions, standard operating procedures, routings and other documentation supporting manufacturing operations; Provides creative approaches to solve complex problems and determines best path with a strong grasp of root cause analysis; Assists external customers where appropriate in new product design and continuous improvement of related and relevant components in support of all MBI vessels and vessel designs; and, Other duties may be assigned. Education and/or Experience: Degree (4 year) in manufacturing, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering combined with a minimum of five years experience leading engineering teams; or, an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Minimum of five years experience with engineering and/or manufacturing electrical systems (harness, distribution panels or similar items) required. Experience with CAD systems (AutoCAD or Solidworks preferred) and outputs supporting either mechanical or electrical drawings preferred. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common mechanical and electrical drawings, scientific and technical journals, general business periodicals, business reports, professional journals, technical procedures, government regulations, financial reports, and legal documents. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communications skills in English. Is able to consider a variety of perspectives to any given issue and to propose alternatives when necessary. Is able to effectively present information and respond to questions from a broad audience at multiple levels and interests. Is skilled in the use of the Microsoft office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts using standardized formulae. Reasoning Ability: Must possess and maintain strong understanding of general problem solving, logical reasoning and root cause analysis. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
