Engineering Technician
Position Title: Engineering TechnicianLocation: Minnetonka, MNPosition SummaryThe Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting engineering and research teams through the fabrication, assembly, operation, and maintenance of process testing equipment. This position performs hands‑on technical work to build and modify equipment, diagnose issues, and provide informed recommendations to engineering staff. This position requires proficiency with light industrial tools, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely with high‑temperature systems and related equipment.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to:Fabrication and AssemblyFabricate and assemble process equipment and fixtures using light industrial tools and mechanical fabrication techniques.Interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, and verbal instructions to support accurate and timely builds.Support development of test stands, mechanical subsystems, and custom equipment components.Equipment Troubleshooting and MaintenancePerform troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions on mechanical, electrical, and process equipment.Conduct repairs and adjustments to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient equipment operation.Document service activities, equipment findings, and recommended improvements.Engineering SupportProvide engineering teams with practical design feedback based on hands‑on experience with equipment operation and assembly.Support system testing and data collection activities.Assist in updating technical documentation, operation procedures, and maintenance guidelines.High‑Temperature Furnace SystemsSafely operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high‑temperature equipment, thermal assemblies, heating elements, and insulation systems.Monitor and record system performance, identifying and communicating any safety or operational concerns to engineering leadership.Required QualificationsAssociate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or related field; or equivalent hands‑on technical experience.Demonstrated proficiency with light industrial tools (e.g., drill press, grinders, saws, hand tools).Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and basic wiring diagrams.Strong mechanical aptitude and experience troubleshooting equipment.Ability to work safely with heated systems and industrial equipment.Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering and production teams.Preferred Qualifications Experience in welding (MIG, TIG, and/or spot welding).Background in metal fabrication, including cutting, forming, machining, or finishing operations.Familiarity with controls or electrical systems, such as panel wiring, sensors, instrumentation, or PLC basics.Prior experience working with high‑temperature furnaces, thermal processing equipment, or energy‑intensive industrial systems.Experience in R&D, prototyping, or small‑scale manufacturing environments.Basic hands-on experience with low-voltage electrical systems and wiring is a plus.Physical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.Ability to stand, bend, and work for extended periods in a shop or lab environment.Use of appropriate PPE when working around high‑temperature or industrial equipment.Work EnvironmentWork is performed in a combination of laboratory and engineering shop environments.Exposure to noise, heat, and equipment requiring adherence to safety procedures and protective equipment standards.Additional InformationThis job description is intended to provide a general overview of the responsibilities and qualifications for the Engineering Technician role.
