DHR Health - US:TX:Edinburg - VariesSummary:The RN House Supervisor is the back-up administrative representative for the organization when administration is not present. This position is responsible to assist in the operations of the Hospital on his/her shift, including patient care, personnel management, and problem solving. As a leader, the House Supervisor is accountable to meet patient care needs while promoting a professional work environment in which excellent patient care and customer service is ALWAYS provided. The House Supervisor demonstrates exceptional working relationships with staff, physicians, all members of the hospital team and public by exercising consistent communication, displaying honesty and respect, modeling sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner. Supports the organization vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:Graduate of accredited school of nursing requiredCurrent registered nurse's license in the State of TexasCurrent BLS certification.ACLS within 6 months of hire.Job requires cross training to like areas - Patient Intake CenterWillingness to become a preceptor after one year of House Supervisor experienceHospital experience requiredBilingual - English/Spanish preferredResponsibilities:Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practicesConducts all aspects of supervision in a firm, fair, consistent manner and in accordance to our established policies and procedures.Works with staff to resolve interpersonal conflictsServes as a resource, facilitator and coordinator of safe patient care between all departments and disciplines.Evaluates and assists with all transfers in and out of facilityAssists in ensuring effective distribution and utilization of personnel with particular emphasis on staffing for nursing areas by following staffing guidelines and decreasing unnecessary overtime.Meets with patients, family members and other customers to discuss concerns and unmet needs and coordinates a response.Evaluates and reports issues on Quantros to help identify trends.Collaborates with department directors/administration in problem solving to address trended issues.Manages employees' injuries after hours or when director is absent.Serves as initial contact to Administrator on Call when the hospital's safety plan must be initiated in the absence of hospital administrators and other leaders.Manages the resolution of patient issues that arise during the course of the shift.Executes decisions in the absence of the administration and contacts Administrator on Call as necessary.Makes frequent rounds to monitor care and is available to staff as neededEnsures appropriate patient bed assignment and supervises clinical activitiesResponds to all codes and alerts hospital-widePerforms other duties as assigned by managementEnsures care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas and ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.Standard I: Quality of CareThe nurse systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.Standard II: Performance AppraisalThe nurse evaluates his/her own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statues and regulations.Standard III: EducationThe nurse acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.Standard IV: CollegialityThe nurse contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.Standard V: EthicsThe nurse's decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner.Standard VI: CollaborationThe nurse collaborates with the patient, significant other, and health care providers in providing patient care.Standard VII: ResearchThe nurse uses research findings in practice.Standard VIII: Resource UtilizationThe nurse considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.Standard IX: Practice EnvironmentThe nurse contributes to the environment of care delivery within the practice settings.Standard X: AccountabilityThe nurse is professionally and legally accountable for his/her practice. The professional registered nurse may delegate to and supervise qualified personnel who provide patient care.Builds a positive work environment by guiding employees to support the mission of the hospital, providing developmental opportunities and encouraging teamwork.Other information:JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:Knowledge of clinical nursing practice, equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a regionally accredited degree program in nursing.Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this job are typically acquired through a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience as a registered nurse in Hospital setting, including previous leadership experience.Must demonstrate ability to resolve conflict, motivate staff and interact with superiors peers and subordinates in a direct and professional manner.Three (3) years of management level experience in healthcare, which includes both supervisory and financial responsibilities preferred.LINES OF REPSONSIBILITES:(Chain-of-command)1.
