Principal Electrical Engineer – Power SystemsLocation: Denver, ColoradoCompensation: $185,000 - $210k + 10% Short-Term IncentiveTravel: ~25%Citizenship: U.S. Citizen RequiredAbout the OpportunityKavaliro is seeking an accomplished Principal Electrical Engineer – Power Systems to support a nationally recognized electric utility solutions engineering firm serving investor-owned utilities, municipal and cooperative utilities, government agencies, industrial facilities, and commercial clients.This organization has over 20 years of experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance, and operations and has been recognized as a Top Workplace in 2025. Due to the federal nature of many projects, U.S. Citizenship is required.This is a senior-level technical leadership role with direct impact on program direction, engineering standards, and major infrastructure initiatives including substations, distribution systems, and microgrid development.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide expert-level engineering leadership for utility power distribution systemsLead design and development of:Sub-transmission systemsMedium voltage substationsSwitching stationsComplex commercial/industrial distribution systemsDevelop conceptual and detailed microgrid designs incorporating renewable and conventional generation assetsPerform advanced power system modeling and analysis using ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similarLead and approve engineering calculations, system studies, and protection coordination analysesDevelop technical specifications for major electrical equipmentConduct field walk-downs to determine project requirementsPrepare cost estimates and support construction teams throughout project lifecycleAnalyze fault events, system loading, and power quality issuesEnsure compliance with all applicable industry standards and codesMentor and develop junior engineersMaintain strong client relationships across federal and utility sectorsRequired QualificationsBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)12+ years of experience in the electric utility industryMinimum 5 years in a Lead, Supervisory, or Project Management capacityActive Professional Engineer (PE) LicenseSubject Matter Expertise in:Power system analysisDistribution system modelingProtective device coordinationDeep experience with medium voltage substations and distribution systemsProficiency with ETAP or comparable power system softwareStrong communication and leadership skillsAbility to manage multiple complex projects simultaneouslyAdditional RequirementsU.S. CitizenAbility to obtain Military Base Access ClearanceValid driver’s licenseWillingness to travel approximately 25%Compensation & Benefits$150,000–$185,000 annual base salary (dependent on experience)10% Short-Term Incentive eligibilityComprehensive medical, dental, and life insurance401(k) with company contributionGenerous PTO and paid holidaysStable, privately held organization with strong growth trajectory
