Reporting To : Cytogenetics Supervisor / Laboratory Manager
Position SummaryThe Cytogenetic Technologist conducts microscopic and molecular analysis of human chromosomes to support diagnoses of congenital disorders, hematologic malignancies, fertility issues, and prenatal abnormalities. The technologist is responsible for culturing, harvesting, slide preparation, karyotyping, FISH/array analysis, and reporting findings in ISCN format to healthcare providers.
Collect and prepare biological specimens (e.g., blood, bone marrow, amniotic fluid, tissue) using aseptic techniqueEstablish and maintain cell cultures; harvest, fix and prepare slides for analysis using banding protocolsPerform karyotyping, FISH, and chromosomal microarray analyses as assignedPrepare findings using ISCN nomenclature; document through lab information systemsAccurately record QC, maintain logs, and follow CLIA/HIPAA/OSHA complianceCollaborate with pathologists and genetic counselors on complex cases, and assist in training junior staff or traineesPerform daily instrument maintenance and participate in proficiency testing as requiredMay work rotating shifts, weekends, or overtime based on specimen loadQualificationsBachelor s degree in Cytogenetic Technology, Medical Technology, Biology, or related scienceASCP CLS(CG) certification (or eligible within 1 year) required; MLS with on-the-job cytogenetics training may be consideredPreferred 1 2 years of cytogenetics experience, including FISH and array methodologiesStrong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and analytical skillsKnowledge of ISCN standards and comfortable working with microscopes and image capture systemsExcellent written and verbal communication; ability to work within multidisciplinary teamsClick to apply or send a resume to for immediate consideration.
