Reporting to senior finance leadership, this role leads the accounting team, oversees audits, implements strong internal controls, and ensures accurate preparation of financial statements and reports for leadership and the board.Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial ReportingDirect general ledger, revenue reconciliation, and month-end/year-end close processesPrepare accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and nonprofit standardsClassify and report net assets with/without donor restrictions, including releasesPrepare monthly/quarterly financial reports and variance analysis for leadership and the BoardEndowment & Investment AccountingOversee accounting for permanently restricted, temporarily restricted, and board-designated endowmentsRecord and review investment activity, income, gains/losses, and spending policy allocationsEnsure compliance with donor restrictions, UPMIFA, and Board-approved endowment policiesReconcile endowment balances and prepare disclosures for audited financial statementsFederal Grants & Restricted FundingManage accounting and compliance for federal grants under Uniform GuidanceEnsure proper cost allocation, allowability, and reasonableness of grant expendituresSupport federal financial report preparation (e.g., SF-425) and Single Audit schedulesMonitor subrecipient activity and reporting complianceInternal Controls & ComplianceDesign and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting, grants, and endowmentsEnsure adherence to donor agreements, grant terms, and organizational policiesLead fraud prevention, risk mitigation, and compliance monitoring effortsAudit, Tax & Regulatory OversightServe as liaison with external auditors for annual audits and Single AuditsPrepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentationManage audit responses and corrective action plansLeadership & Systems OversightLead and develop accounting team with clear expectations and workflowsOversee accounting systems, fund, grant, and endowment configurationLead or support system implementations, upgrades, and process improvementsQualifications RequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field8–10+ years progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit fund accountingExperience with endowment accounting and federal grantsKnowledge of U.S. GAAP, nonprofit standards, and Uniform GuidanceExperience leading audits, including Single AuditsProven people management experiencePreferredCPA designation strongly preferredExperience in federally funded nonprofits, foundations, or public health organizationsFamiliarity with UPMIFA and endowment spending policiesExperience with nonprofit ERP systems (Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday)Core Competencies High accuracy and attention to detailStrong analytical and compliance-oriented mindsetAbility to manage complex funding streams and deadlinesEffective communication with auditors, funders, and leadershipCommitment to mission-driven financial stewardshipController overseeing nonprofit accounting, endowment and federal grant compliance, audits, financial reporting, internal controls, and team leadership.Powered by JazzHR
