Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Title: Senior Electrical EngineerLocation: Houston, TX (Hybrid) Duration: 12+ Months ContractJob OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and oversee electrical and control system design for capital expansion and maintenance projects. This role involves managing third-party engineering firms, ensuring compliance with company standards and industry regulations, and delivering projects within budget and schedule.The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Project Execution, Operations, and Shared Services to ensure all project requirements are effectively integrated into design deliverables.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Design OversightLead electrical and controls design for large-scale industrial projects, including compressor stations.Ensure all designs comply with company standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.Review and approve engineering deliverables such as drawings, technical reports, and material specifications.Oversee third-party engineering firms to ensure quality, budget, and schedule adherence.Power SystemsDesign and review: 120/208V systems (lighting, panels, outlets)480V systems (MCCs, motors, transformers, generators)4160V systems (switchgear, breakers, relays, synchronous motors)Perform cable/conduit sizing, grounding design, and overload protection.Support cathodic protection system design.Controls & AutomationWork with PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley or equivalent).Oversee HMI systems (e.g., Wonderware).Design motor control circuits and valve actuation systems.Implement PID control loops and Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD).InstrumentationSpecify and review instrumentation including: Pressure, temperature, and level transmittersRTDs, thermocouples, and thermowellsFlame and gas detection systemsSmart and analog transmitters (e.g., Rosemount)Project ExecutionSupport development of project scope, schedule, cost estimates, and risk assessments.Review vendor proposals and perform technical bid evaluations.Recommend equipment selection based on technical and commercial evaluation.Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases. Leadership & CollaborationProvide technical guidance to junior engineers.Collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and external stakeholders.Incorporate lessons learned into future project designs.Support departmental initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.QualificationsRequiredBachelor’s Degree in Electrical EngineeringMinimum 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering and project executionStrong experience with industrial power systems and control systems designExperience working with hazardous area classifications (NEC compliance)PreferredProfessional Engineer (PE) designationExperience with large horsepower turbine-driven compressor systemsStrong problem-solving and project management skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and work independentlyExcellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical teamsWork EnvironmentHybrid work model (office + remote)Fast-paced, deadline-driven project environmentOccasional travel to field sites (PPE required)
