The individual will be instrumental in designing, executing, and interpreting experiments using rodent models to investigate neurological and aging disorders and evaluate therapeutic interventions. This will enhance the Translational Neuroscience team's in vivo research capacity, establish advanced models for due diligence, and test novel drug mechanisms of action. The scientist will also be crucial in modeling novel aspects of neurodegenerative diseases, incorporating human cohort findings, and setting up mechanistic models to test hypotheses from new target discovery.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and characterize novel in vivo models of neurodegeneration and age-related biologyDesign and execute in vivo functional experiments for target validation and mechanistic biology studiesConduct broad animal behavioral assessments to characterize neurological phenotypesAnalyze, interpret, and communicate data and results effectively to the teamDocument data and protocols in accordance with Calico guidelines, maintaining meticulous records of experiments, data, and findingsContribute to experimental design, data interpretation, and presentation of resultsCollaborate effectively across multiple functional teamsAdhere to all animal welfare regulations and institutional guidelinesPosition RequirementsPh.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, Pharmacology, or a related field, with 5+ years relevant postdoctoral or equivalent industrial experienceIn Vivo Expertise:Experience in live animal surgeriesExtensive experience with broad animal behavioral assessment techniquesExpertise in rodent handling, compound treatments, micro sampling, and CNS tissue harvestsExperience in longitudinal monitoring of behavior and colony maintenanceLaboratory Skills:Practical experience in cellular assaysSkilled in cells and tissue immunohistochemistry and microscopy, including basic histological techniques for tissue processing, staining, and image analysisAnalytical & Communication Skills:Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teamMeticulous with attention to detailMust be willing to work onsite 5 days a weekThe estimated base salary range for this role is $166,000 - $191,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
