Chainman
We are seeking a motivated Land Surveying Chainman to join our field crew. This entry-level to mid-level position supports the Party Chief and crew on a variety of surveying projects, including construction staking, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a career in land surveying.
Responsibilities
Assist the Party Chief and crew with day-to-day field survey operations
Set, hold, and retrieve survey stakes, rods, prisms, and targets
Assist with construction staking layout for roadways, utilities, sitework, and structures
Search for and help recover property corners, monuments, and control points
Clear brush, vegetation, and obstructions to establish sightlines and access
Assist in operating and carrying robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and other survey instruments
Help maintain accurate field notes and data under the direction of the Party Chief
Load, unload, and maintain survey equipment and vehicles
Follow all safety protocols on active job sites, including construction sites and roadways
Communicate clearly with crew members throughout the workday
Requirements
Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain
Ability to walk, stand, and hike for extended periods, including on uneven ground
Ability to lift/carry survey equipment (typically up to 50 lbs)
Basic understanding of, or willingness to learn, survey equipment and terminology
Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience on a survey crew or in construction
Familiarity with robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, or data collectors
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
