We believe deeply in the role education and diverse learning environments play in advancing equity, inclusion, and a shared sense of responsibility for one another.Summary Of PositionThe Middle School French and Spanish Faculty member reports to the Middle School Director and works closely with students and families, as well as Middle School Faculty and Staff, while also being an active member of the school’s World Language Department. This position will be responsible for teaching world language classes (to include both French and Spanish classes) throughout the school year, in addition to the possibility of hosting a student advisory group for the Academic Year.ResponsibilitiesWhile other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:Possess the ability and skills to successfully teach both French and SpanishPlan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in both in-person and virtual classroomsCreate an immersion setting in class using comprehensible input to build students’ oral and written proficiencyDevelop and implement a proficiency-oriented interdisciplinary, multicultural, experiential curriculumObserve/evaluate/assess students’ development using ACTFL’s Proficiency Guidelines and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growthServe as advisor to the middle school studentsValue and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculumEstablish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all studentsCollaborate and work effectively with the school’s World Language DepartmentCreate and sustain effective family partnerships, for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal conferences, written reports, and school portalAttend school related events outside the scheduled school dayParticipate actively in school/division/department meetings, in addition to school activities/committeesLead E-lectives throughout the academic yearDesign and lead an E Week program each academic yearBe familiar with all the roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty HandbookAttend all grade-level meetingsAttend all Middle School, Department, and All-Staff faculty meetingsAttend all beginning of the year and end-of-year faculty meetingsConscientiously complete other duties as assignedExperience And Professional CompetenciesExperience in teaching Middle School French and Spanish – a minimum of 3 years is preferredA bachelor’s degree in French, Spanish, Education or related field is requiredA graduate degree in French, Spanish, Education or a related field is preferredSuccessful Candidates WillPossess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school’s mission and valuesExhibit the capacity and desire to engage in experiential activities and programs with studentsPossess training and previous experience implementing Comprehensible Input strategiesPossess training and fluency in evaluating student skills using ACTFL’s Proficiency GuidelinesCommunicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others, including administrators, colleagues, staff and parents/guardians to maintain constructive and professional relationshipsComplete work in a timely and thorough manner and be conscientious about assignments and deadlinesHave proficient skills in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite, Google Drive and Google Classroom, and OutlookSuccessful Candidates WillPreferred but not required familiarity using Canvas or LMS.
