Senior Project Engineer / Subject Matter Expert Location: Hybrid – Los Alamos, NM / Santa Fe, NM with occasional onsite and vendor travel Salary: $85/hr – $95/hr, depending on experience Schedule: Full-Time | 4/10s or 9/80 schedule Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q Clearance Assignment Duration: 1 year with possible yearly extensions and potential conversion Openings: 5 totalPosition OverviewCompa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for Senior Project Engineer / Subject Matter Expert positions supporting Los Alamos National Laboratory’s high-visibility PIT production mission.These roles will support fabrication, procurement, renovation, and equipment development tied to the 30-PIT mission, with long-term alignment toward the 30-PIT to 60-PIT mission by 2030. The project is currently halfway through the first phase of a three-phase effort.The selected candidates will act as project engineers managing the engineering function, supporting technical scope, coordinating with procurement engineering, and working closely with an innovative project team of technical experts, vendors, and stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as a project engineer managing engineering functions for assigned scope, deliverables, and technical execution.Support fabrication and procurement activities related to equipment and systems for PIT production mission needs.Coordinate renovation, fabrication, and integration of equipment supporting the 30-PIT mission.Manage technical scope, project priorities, action items, and engineering deliverables.Work closely with procurement engineers, vendors, technical experts, and cross-functional project teams.Support vendor coordination, technical reviews, procurement packages, fabrication oversight, and issue resolution.Participate in design, fabrication, and procurement planning across multiple phases of the project.Ensure engineering work aligns with project scope, schedule, mission requirements, and stakeholder expectations.Support occasional travel to vendor facilities for reviews, inspections, coordination meetings, or project execution needs.Communicate technical updates clearly with project leadership, engineering teams, procurement, and external stakeholders.Required QualificationsEngineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biological, or related engineering discipline.Minimum of 3–4 years of relevant engineering experience.Experience supporting engineering projects involving fabrication, procurement, equipment design, system integration, or technical project execution.Strong ability to manage engineering scope, coordinate technical teams, and support project execution.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and standard office productivity tools.Ability to work in a hybrid environment with occasional onsite work in Los Alamos or Santa Fe.Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.Preferred QualificationsPrior glovebox experience.Prior nuclear, DOE, NNSA, LANL, or highly regulated facility experience.Mechanical systems, HVAC, or facility equipment experience.Experience working with vendors, procurement engineers, fabrication teams, or technical suppliers.Experience supporting high-technology, mission-critical, manufacturing, laboratory, or national security projects.Prior experience with equipment renovation, fabrication oversight, technical scope development, or project engineering.Work Location & TravelThis is a hybrid position with occasional onsite support. Local candidates may work from LANL facilities as needed.Primary work locations may include:Los AlamosSanta Fe Occasional vendor facility travelVendor travel is expected on occasion, estimated at approximately one week every 3–4 months, depending on project needs. Site visits may be conducted using rental vehicles. Driving is not expected beyond normal commute and occasional project-related travel.ScheduleMonday–Friday schedule4/10 or 9/80 schedule optionsOccasional overtime may be required based on mission needsNo on-call requirementIdeal Candidate ProfileThe strongest candidates will have engineering experience in mechanical systems, HVAC, gloveboxes, fabrication, procurement, nuclear facilities, or complex technical project execution.
