Marine Maintenance Worker
Job Description
Serves as a Marine Facilities Maintenance Worker. Works under limited supervision and direction from the Marine Facilities Manager. Functions include various tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and other structures that fall under the responsibility of the Marine Facilities Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB TASKS: (Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions)
Maintains and repairs the promenade and all other waterfront property, buildings, and facilities
Constructs new piers and maintains existing piers
Repairs docks, pilings, and walkways
Makes minor electrical repairs as required at all waterfront facilities
Installs new and repairs existing water systems on the piers, buildings, and waterfront parks
Makes repairs as needed to City barge and other related equipment
Operates heavier equipment such as backhoe and loaders as required
Relocates and secures vessels as required
Provides assistance to marina users and tourists, including answering questions and providing information as required
Monitors marina for safe operation of boats and reports unsafe or unusual events to the Marina Supervisor
Assists with handling marina emergencies such as sunken boats, unsecured boats and equipment, etc.
Supervise Marina Attendant in absence of Manager
Completes daily reports
Performs other duties as assigned
OTHER RELATED FACTORS:
Work is normally performed outside exposing the employee to varying climactic and weather conditions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Ability to frequently walk and stand and occasionally stoop, kneel or crawl
Employee must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and with assistance as much as one-hundred (100) pounds
Ability to work as a member of a team
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine
Knowledge of actions to take in the case of an emergency such as fire, sinking, storms, etc.
Possession of a driver’s license
Ability to communicate with others including the public in a friendly, courteous manner
Must have good seamanship skills and boat safety knowledge
Knowledge of dock and marine construction
Skill in the operation of hand tools and power tools
Skill with painting and finishing
Must be a competent swimmer
Education and Experience:
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Experience with boat handling and operation
Carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repair work experience
Must possess a Class B CDL
