Express Driver
Job Summary
Express Shuttle Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related events. Shuttle Drivers pick up students at a designated location, such as street corners or private homes and drop them off at school and provide transportation during the school day as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Transport students in a timely manner to and from school and/or school activities while following district safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations.
1. Operate and safely drive an Express shuttle in either good or adverse weather, road, and traffic conditions while transporting passengers to or from school or special events. Comply with traffic regulations while operating vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
2. Communicate express shuttle safety, and behavior requirements to passengers; and address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills.
3. Communicate with student's parents to solve inappropriate or unsafe behavior utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills.
4. Assist students and passengers boarding and unloading the bus when necessary, including wheelchair students and adaptive equipment.
5. Inspect shuttle bus daily to identify and report deficiencies. Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as fluid and fuel levels, tire pressure checks, clean internal and external areas, and any other normal daily maintenance as required by Transportation Manager.
6. Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
7. Comply with SBI drug testing requirements. This position is in the routine random drug screen program.
8. Complete all records and reports timely and accurately such as pre-trip, post trip, route logs, mileage, student counts, student reports, time sheets, and submit to Transportation Department.
9. Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route / trip logs.
10. Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
11. Operation of a two-way radio.
12. Maintain cleanliness to ensure safe operating conditions.
13. Responsible to work with Harlow's Safety Manager on the implementation and compliance of all DOT and OSHA rules and regulations.
Experience and Skill Requirements
. Class 1 Driver's License

Know proper teaching techniques, demonstrate good human relations and communication skills; able to recognize something that is wrong or incomplete, and knowing how to apply logic as well common sense when addressing situations.
