Special Projects Helper Maintenance Department

The Special Projects Helper supports the Maintenance Department within an industrial sheet metal production facility. This position assists with a variety of technical, fabrication, and facility improvement projects, including the installation of electrical systems and equipment, running air lines, and fabricating custom components. The role requires strong hands-on ability, attention to safety, and a willingness to learn while supporting skilled maintenance personnel.Essential Functions Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, machinery, and facility equipment. Support installation and routing of compressed air lines and related components. Perform welding and metal fabrication tasks including cutting, grinding, and assembly. Fabricate custom brackets, fixtures, and components using mills, lathes, and other shop equipment. Assist with special projects such as equipment upgrades, process improvements, and facility modifications. Provide general maintenance support including basic carpentry, painting, cleaning, and groundskeeping. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment in accordance with company policies. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas including shop and storage spaces. Transport tools, materials, and equipment to job sites as needed. Follow all safety procedures including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout protocols. Communicate project status, material needs, and issues to supervisors in a timely manner.---Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred. Basic understanding of electrical systems or willingness to learn under supervision. Ability to safely operate mills, lathes, welders, grinders, and other fabrication tools. Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills. Ability to read and follow instructions, diagrams, and basic technical drawings. Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new skills. Valid driver's license (if required).---Preferred Qualifications Experience with MIG/TIG welding. Experience operating manual mills or lathes. Basic knowledge of industrial electrical systems or equipment. Familiarity with compressed air systems. Previous experience in maintenance, industrial production, or metal fabrication environments.---Physical and Work Environment Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, fabrication equipment, noise, heat, and electrical systems. Work performed both indoors and outdoors as needed. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift materials throughout the workday. Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment as required.
