CNC Operator Tool Making DepartmentThis role supports the tool making department by operating CNC and manual machines, assisting machinists with tool production, and performing tool maintenance and calibration. You will work hands-on with tooling, grinding, and machining processes to ensure tools are accurate, reliable, and ready for use in production.ResponsibilitiesOperate CNC machines as well as manual mills and lathes to support tool making activities.Work directly with machinists in the tool making department to produce, adjust, and refine tools.Perform tool maintenance, including inspection, cleaning, and minor repairs to keep tools in optimal condition.Carry out manual surface grinding operations to achieve precise dimensions and finishes on tooling components.Assist with tool calibration to ensure tools meet required specifications and tolerances.Use mechanical skills and hand and power tools to assemble, modify, and maintain tooling.Follow work instructions, drawings, and specifications to complete machining and grinding tasks accurately.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area within the shop environment.Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machining or tooling issues and recommend improvements.Essential SkillsExperience operating CNC equipment in a shop or manufacturing environment.Hands-on experience with manual mills and lathes.Ability to perform manual surface grinding on tooling components.Practical tool maintenance experience, including inspection and basic repair.Strong mechanical skills with hand tools and power tools.Ability to work closely with machinists and follow detailed instructions and specifications.Basic understanding of tool calibration and dimensional accuracy.Ability to work safely and efficiently in a shop environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience as a tool maker or in a tool room environment.Experience as a mechanical or electrical apprentice or similar technical apprenticeship.Familiarity with manual tooling practices and precision measurement tools.Interest in developing further skills in machining, grinding, and tool making.Why Work Here?You will join a hands-on, collaborative shop environment where skilled trades and craftsmanship are highly valued. The setting is industrial and hands-on, with a focus on safety, organization, and efficient workflow.Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
