The College of Urban Education envisions teachers, education leaders and systems that sustain equity, creativity and opportunity for urban communities.Adjunct Faculty-Grand Rapids-College of Urban EducationWORK LOCATION: Grand Rapids - Lettinga CampusDEPARTMENT: Academic-College of Urban EdSPECIFIC COURSE INFORMATION: Davenport University is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to teach undergraduate Teacher Education courses delivered through our flexible format, which includes an in-seat component at our Lettinga campus.Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach one or more of the following courses, including Literacy Methods, Health and Physical Education, Social Studies Methods, STEM Curriculum Design and Methods, and Mathematics Methods.SummaryAdjunct Faculty bring practical experience to the classroom and transfer their knowledge to students by establishing and promoting an effective learning environment for students with diverse interests, abilities, needs, and expectations in the area of teacher preparation.ResponsibilitiesGlobal experience in teacher preparation or teacher development.Demonstrated general knowledge in teaching disciplines related to math, science, reading, and literacy, preferably in an urban environment.Teaches courses as contracted each semester.Attend and be prepared for scheduled class sessions. Provide instructional opportunities for entire scheduled class time.Contribute positively to the advancement of academics through:Understanding the Davenport University curriculum;Preparing instructional course syllabi and materials; andMay provide input and feedback on selected textbooks and instructional resource and electronic materials.Conduct classes in accordance with established course outlines and approved instructional materials.Guide students in their educational processes by referring them for assistance regarding their program/schedules, academic progress, specialized services within the University, and up-to-date information about educational/occupational opportunities.Be accessible to assist students with questions and in the completion of assignments as delineated in the course syllabus.Access information on current issues through University communications (i.e., e-mail and print correspondence, website, and publications).Maintain all records-student/classroom/department (i.e., grades, attendance, etc.) - in compliance with the University Instructional Policies and Procedures Manual.Maintain and demonstrate a positive approach that provides for innovation and personal growthMaintain and demonstrate a Business/Professional environment.Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies.
