**Position Description & Qualifications**Our Techincal Graduate Associate Program is designed to provide university and college graduate students with paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work technical work experience in a professional environment utilizing computer science and master research experience to work with senior technical leadership on specialty projects. Our 2026 internship opportunities are available at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island, beginning on June 15th and concluding on August 21st. You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you, working no more than an average of 40 hours a week. Stephen leads our team at the Autonomous Maritime Systems Test Center (AMSTC) in Newport, Rhode Island.As a Graduate Associate, you will support our Maritime Engineering, Technology & Sustainment (METS) Business Unit which is responsible for industry-leading capabilities in naval ship and submarine design, systems and engineering services, and production support, logistics and in-service sustainment. This complements Serco's other engineering capabilities in shipboard, shore and systems installation and upgrading services to the Navy.You will join a team that is responsible for overseeing design, development and integration efforts of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). This impacts on the Navy by capturing and correcting engineering discrepancies in process during design and prototype development to deliver a better AUV. In your role, you will become part of a team working on lab and field engineering solutions for the US Navy's newest technology. During your work experience, you will gain exposure to a wide range of teams within the organization including marine/mechanical engineering, electrical, design, procurement and program/project management. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly engaged and collaborative engineering team.In this role, you will:+ Use your coding skills to review, develop, and test software algorithms and applications.+ Assist in the design, evaluation, bench-test, integration, and in-water test of undersea vehicle payloads.+ Provide support to more senior staff members while maintaining a certain degree of creativity and latitude.+ Be assigned a mentor for further training and professional development.+ Complete special projects as assigned.+ Perform analysis and model construction for future vehicle mission planning.+ Draft post vehicle mission reports.+ Maintain engineering notebook and present end of internship synopsisTo be successful in this role, you will have:+ Completion of Bachelor of Science Degree and current enrollment in a STEM graduate program.+ Preferred fields of study: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, or a related field of study.+ Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills.+ Demonstrated experience collaborating in a team environment.+ Background in design and underwater robotics systems.+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Python, C, Rust, C++, MATLAB, and ROS2.+ Passion for learning with a wide degree of creativity and curiosity.**Company Overview**Serco Inc.
