Overview of RoleJoin a 12-bed, high-dependency care unit primarily operated by Advanced Practice Providers, supported by a critical care physician and specialty trainee. In this collaborative environment, you’ll be a vital part of the frontline clinical team, overseeing the full scope of treatment for individuals facing complex and severe conditions, such as:Upper or lower GI hemorrhageSevere insulin-related metabolic imbalancesCirculatory insufficiency (e.g., infectious, cardiac, or mixed origin)Failure of multiple organ systemsRespiratory compromise requiring oxygenation or ventilation supportCases involving Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), utilized either for temporary stabilization or pre-transplant preparation, overseen by a dedicated ECMO physicianSchedule FormatDaytime Hours (7 AM – 7 PM):Partner with 2–3 advanced practice colleagues, one supervising physician, and a pulmonary fellowResponsible for direct oversight of up to four patients; provide support for additional cases depending on clinical needOvernight Hours (7 PM – 7 AM):Paired with one other NP and an attending available onsite (with intermittent fellow support)Oversee all individuals admitted to the unit (total of 12), in addition to handling new cases and urgent interventions, with attending guidance available as neededPrimary DutiesDeliver full-spectrum critical care for unit patientsParticipate in multidisciplinary bedside discussionsHandle admissions, including documentation and order setsEscort patients to off-unit diagnostics or interventional appointmentsServe as liaison for specialists and relativesWrite and update clinical progress documentation and transfer briefsConduct bedside procedures (with attending supervision as necessary), such as:Arterial and central vascular accessFluid drainage from abdominal cavityDiagnostic spinal tap
