The Mathematics Quantitative Fellow is a full-time, fixed-term position from July 2026 to June 2027. The expected range for this position is $20.02 - 22.50 per hour.The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. Click here for Benefits Information.The Mathematics Q Fellow is a "green dean" position for a recent Amherst College graduate who is interested in providing support for students in Mathematics. The Math fellow provides support for students in intermediate math courses and encourages students of diverse backgrounds, including groups under-represented in mathematics, first-generation college students, and students with varying mathematical preparation. The Fellow also provides support for students preparing to take the departmental Comprehensive Exam.Summary of Responsibilities:Providing support, in the form of drop-in tutoring, appointments and workshops, for students in intermediate mathematics courses, particularly Math 220 (Mathematical Reasoning), Math 271/2 (Linear Algebra), Math 350 (Groups, Rings and Fields) and Math 355 (Analysis)Coordinating with the faculty teaching those courses and reviewing materials to prepare for meetings with studentsCoordinating with other Math staff in the Moss Q Center to decide on division of support and schedulesWorking with the QCenter Directors on planning and participating in college trainingsEngaging in professional development and further educationQualifications:RequiredBA from Amherst College, majoring in Mathematics or related disciplineStrong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skillsFacility with online communicationCommitment to working with students from many backgroundsGood judgment in working with students and facultySuccessful completion of required reference and background checksAn acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) checkPreferredTutoring experience at Amherst CollegeInterested candidates are asked to submit a resume, unofficial transcript and cover letter online at Amherst_Jobs.
