Controller (Plant)

We are looking for an experienced Plant Controller to lead accounting activities for our manufacturing operation in Santa Cruz, California. This role combines hands-on financial management with operational partnership, supporting accurate reporting, cost visibility, and informed decision-making across the plant. The ideal candidate brings strong manufacturing accounting expertise and can balance day-to-day transactional oversight with higher-level analysis and planning.Responsibilities:• Direct plant accounting activities, including ledger oversight, account balancing, period-end close, and preparation of financial reports.• Record and review daily financial transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely processing.• Lead manufacturing cost accounting efforts by managing product costs, inventory valuation, margin analysis, and cost variances.• Work closely with plant leadership to interpret financial results related to production output, labor efficiency, material usage, and operating performance.• Track inventory trends, manufacturing spend, and production variances to support sound business decisions.• Enhance accounting controls and standard procedures to protect financial integrity and improve reporting reliability.• Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual statements along with management reporting packages.• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and cash planning activities for the site.• Coordinate audit support, compliance documentation, and related financial records preparation.• Evaluate financial and operational data to highlight patterns, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.Posted by Recruiting Director Scott Moore• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including work within a manufacturing setting.• Demonstrated background in manufacturing cost accounting with knowledge of standard costing practices.• Experience with inventory accounting, job costing, variance review, and month-end close processes.• Ability to succeed in a hands-on role within a lean team environment.• Strong command of financial reporting, reconciliations, general ledger management, and internal controls.• Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, along with the communication skills to partner effectively with operational leaders.Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
