Press Break Operator
Job DescriptionBasic Qualifications:Education:High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience:Proven experience operating a press brake, specifically an Amada RG80 or similar machine. 2+ years of experience in a sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment, with a focus on press brake operation. Familiarity with other sheet metal equipment, such as shears, punches, and laser cutters, can be an advantage. Certification:Forklift certification or experience moving heavy sheet metal parts can be a plus. Certification in workplace safety programs is often preferred. Technical Skills:Press Brake Operation:In-depth knowledge of setting up and operating an Amada RG80 press brake. Ability to create and adjust machine programs for precise bends, angles, and tolerances. Experience with back gauge setup, die changes, and machine calibration. Familiarity with multi-axis press brake controls. Blueprint Reading:Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Understanding of bend allowances, tolerances, and other critical dimensions for bending metal sheets. Material Knowledge:Familiarity with various types of sheet metal (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, mild steel) and how each material reacts to different bending techniques. Knowledge of different tooling setups for different materials and thicknesses. Mathematical Skills:Strong math skills for calculating bend allowances, part layouts, and measurements. Proficiency in measuring and verifying parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and protractors. Physical Requirements:Physical Stamina:Ability to lift and move heavy materials (often 50+ lbs). Comfortable standing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods while operating the press brake. Manual Dexterity:Good hand-eye coordination for operating the press brake and handling sheet metal. Safety:Awareness of safety procedures and proper handling of press brakes, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Soft Skills:Attention to Detail:Precise work is essential in sheet metal fabrication, so attention to measurements, quality, and accuracy is critical. Problem-solving Skills:Ability to troubleshoot and adjust machine settings, tooling, and materials to resolve bending issues and ensure quality production. Time Management:Ability to meet production deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards. Teamwork:Working closely with other operators, supervisors, and fabricators to ensure smooth workflow and production. Adaptability:Willingness to learn new techniques, programs, and equipment, and to adapt to changing production needs. Additional Requirements (if applicable):Tooling Knowledge:Understanding of press brake tooling, including punch and die sets, radius tools, and specialty tools for different bending operations. Machine Maintenance:Basic knowledge of press brake maintenance, including inspecting tools, lubricating parts, and performing minor repairs to ensure the longevity of the machine. Forklift/Crane Operation:Experience using forklifts or overhead cranes to move large sheets of metal and finished parts is often beneficial. Willingness to Learn New Technologies:As manufacturing technology advances, willingness to stay up-to-date with new press brake systems, CNC programming, and automation can be advantageous.
