The division promotes a strong culture of professional growth, collegiality, and collaboration among faculty and staff. Our program emphasizes experiential learning through robust co-curricular offerings, including arts, athletics, and community engagement. Middle School-specific initiatives include a series of overnight class and grade-level trips designed to build community, a dedicated Winter Sports program, and various local community partnerships. To support digital literacy and modern pedagogy, the Middle School operates a 1-1 iPad program, with all faculty and staff utilizing the Canvas learning management system and Veracross student information system.Position SummaryRowland Hall is seeking an innovative and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to join our faculty. This full-time role typically includes teaching four sections of 6th grade science and leading a grade-level advisory. The successful candidate will inspire curiosity through engaging hands-on, inquiry-driven learning, support students in developing scientific thinking and problem-solving skills, and actively contribute to a collaborative and inclusive school community.Primary Job ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate science instruction aligned with NGSS standards and relevant course content.Design inquiry-based, student-centered lessons that promote questioning, problem-solving, and critical thinkingDifferentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and support equitable access to learningFacilitate hands-on investigations, modeling, and data analysis to build students’ scientific and computational thinking skillsGuide students in constructing explanations, designing solutions, and engaging in argumentation from evidenceAssess and evaluate student learning using a variety of formative and summative methods; communicate progress clearly and regularlyFoster a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment that supports curiosity, collaboration, and student engagementCommunicate proactively with students, families, and faculty to support student success and well-beingIntegrate technology effectively into instructionMaintain an organized, safe, and productive classroom and laboratory environmentContribute to the school community by participating in meetings, events, assigned duties (e.g., supervision, field trips, club sponsorship), and the advisory programSupport school culture through professionalism, collaboration, and active engagement in school-wide initiativesSkills and RequirementsBachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree and teaching experience preferredExperience teaching science and working with middle school students, with the ability to support student learning and well-beingStrong content knowledge in relevant science disciplinesFlexible, innovative thinker eager to explore new ideas and evidence-based teaching strategiesStrong organizational skills and ability to manage classroom and professional responsibilities effectivelyAbility to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, students, and familiesCommitment to reflective practice, professional growth, and innovative, research-based instructionDemonstrated cultural competence and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionProficiency with educational technology, including learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), Google Workspace, and other web-based toolsCommitment to supporting and promoting the mission and values of Rowland HallRequirementsThe requirements listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
