Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer

Job TypeFull-timeDescriptionSpotts, Stevens and McCoy (SSM) is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our Environmental Engineering Division. You’ll collaborate with an experienced team of engineers and scientists on a diverse portfolio of municipal and industrial water, water resources, and wastewater projects, including treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, and long-range system planning. This position offers the opportunity to lead technical design efforts, guide staff, and maintain trusted relationships with long-standing clients who rely on SSM for practical, reliable, and forward-thinking solutions.Primary ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer, you’ll contribute your expertise to projects that sustain and improve essential community infrastructure.Leading or supporting the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including process design and equipment selection.Preparing and reviewing Planning Modules, Act 537 Sewage Facilities Plans, and permit applications for DEP and other regulatory agencies.Performing engineering calculations and studies for treatment process optimization and system capacity.Designing or reviewing water distribution and sewer collection systems, including pipelines, pump stations, and hydraulic analysis.Developing cost estimates, technical specifications, and construction documents.Managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables in coordination with internal and external partners.Preparing technical reports and supporting proposal development for new opportunities.Providing mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive facility designs.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering 10+ years of professional experience in municipal or consulting engineering for water and wastewater systemsPennsylvania Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)Proven experience with treatment process design, sludge handling, and system planningFamiliarity with water and sewer piping designStrong technical writing skills and ability to prepare reports, cost estimates, and proposalsDirect client and project management experience a plus This position is based out of our Reading PA office; however, there may be flexibility for a hybrid-remote work model.About The FirmSpotts, Stevens and McCoy, Inc. is a family-owned regional engineering, environmental and surveying firm headquartered in Reading PA with offices in Lancaster, West Chester and Lehigh Valley.
