Automation & Controls Engineer
Seeking a highly driven Automation & Controls Engineer to support the design, implementation, and optimization of industrial automation systems within a continuous process manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring operational reliability, safety, and efficiency by maintaining and improving distributed control systems (DCS), PLCs, and SCADA platforms.The ideal candidate combines strong hands‑on automation expertise with a systems mindset, enabling high‑performance process control, effective troubleshooting, and continuous improvement across plant operations.Key ResponsibilitiesAutomation System Design & SupportDesign, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA platforms.Develop and maintain control logic, HMI interfaces, and automation software to support plant operations.Support real‑time troubleshooting and resolution of automation and control system issues.Project Execution & System OptimizationExecute automation projects including system upgrades, migrations, loop tuning, and control strategy improvements.Participate in commissioning, startup, and validation activities for new and modified systems.Drive process optimization through data analysis, alarm management, and control improvements.Technical Documentation & StandardsDevelop and maintain control narratives, functional design specifications, P&IDs, and loop diagrams.Apply industry standards and best practices in automation, safety, and system design.Support configuration management, backups, and cybersecurity compliance.Cross‑Functional CollaborationPartner with operations, maintenance, and process engineering teams to improve plant reliability and performance.Support maintenance strategies and lifecycle management of automation systems.Provide training and technical guidance to operations and maintenance personnel.Safety, Compliance & Continuous ImprovementParticipate in process safety and risk management activities including MOC, PSSR, and HAZOP reviews.Support continuous improvement and digitalization initiatives, including data integration and advanced analytics.Contribute to plant safety culture and ensure compliance with regulatory and operational standards.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Computer, or Automation Engineering (or related field).5+ years of experience in industrial automation and process control environments.Hands‑on experience with DCS, PLCs, and SCADA/HMI systems.Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills.Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, OPC).Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, and control documentation.Strong communication and cross‑functional coordination skills.
