Software Engineer
Software Engineer (3+ Years Experience)
Full-time | Hybrid Role (3 days in-person per week) based in Durham & Raleigh, NC
Company Background
Acta Solutions is a rapidly growing GovTech startup powering better customer service for governments. Our mission is to simplify government workflows. We work with public agencies across the country and provide them with constituent-communication and service delivery software that strengthens governments' ability to support constituents as they apply for and receive services.
Acta's software-as-a-service solution enhances communications workflows within public agencies via AI-enabled tools to develop an internal knowledge-base, auto-compose responses, retrieve geography-specific regulatory information, and streamline coordination between local government staff. We sell to public agencies in 10 states who serve over 8M constituents daily. Our team is tight-knit, agile, and growing rapidly.
The Role
The Software Engineer is an individual-contributor role for an engineer ready to own major features end-to-end and shape the direction of our product and systems. You'll work directly with our CTO on the engineering that matters most to our customers and our business, with real autonomy over how it gets built.
As an engineer on our team you will lead development on system-critical engineering, weigh tradeoffs across competing design approaches, give well-considered recommendations with minimal oversight, and at times own feature development independently. You’ll also play a role in determining scope—estimating accurately, managing requirement changes, articulating tradeoffs to stakeholders, and keeping the team informed as velocity shifts.
If you want a role where your technical decisions carry weight, where you're trusted to own hard problems across the full stack, and where your work visibly improves how millions of people access public services, we'd love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
Own major feature development end-to-end, from design through production
Own scope management on tickets, requirements, and mid-flight changes
Weigh tradeoffs across design approaches and develop timely design options for features of varying size
Lead development and decision-making on system-critical engineering
Deliver well-reasoned pull requests that require little senior review, with sound decisions throughout
Provide rigorous input and feedback to other team members through code reviews
Accurately estimate scope on new work, articulate scope tradeoffs to stakeholders, and keep the team updated on changes to velocity
Provide significant input on system-level improvements and technical direction
