Apply via Dice today!Job#: 3034610Job Description:Network Engineer ILocation: Colorado Springs, Colorado (Onsite)Employment Type: ContractCandidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense --Secret clearance as a condition and continuation of employment.Role OverviewIn this role, the candidate will support the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure. This position is responsible for ensuring reliable connectivity across LAN/WAN environments while collaborating with senior engineers on network design and optimization. The ideal candidate brings strong networking fundamentals and a hands-on approach to supporting production environments.Key ResponsibilitiesConfigure and maintain network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors such as Cisco and Juniper Networks.Monitor network performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving connectivity, latency, and packet loss issues.Implement and support core networking technologies including VLANs, routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, and basic network security controls.Troubleshoot network incidents across LAN/WAN environments, performing root cause analysis and documenting resolutions.Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to support network changes, upgrades, and infrastructure projects.Travel to remote locations to lead and perform network installations, independently perform troubleshooting, and provide status updates to Program personnel.Support critical activities outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.Required QualificationsExperience: Generally has 1+ years of related experience. Must be a proven network engineer with hands-on mid-level experience and knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies.Technical Skills:Understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF.Network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.Firewall experience, especially with Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto.Experience in UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs.Hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizer, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment.Effective communication with writing and presentation skills using Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint and Visio.Understanding of standard DOD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation efforts.Certifications & Clearance:Requires an IAT Level II 8570 Compliant Certification such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, or SCNA.This position requires a CCNA or JNCIA certification.Preferred QualificationsCCNP or JNCIP Certification.Experience with network automation using Ansible.Knowledge of Foundation, NSX, vSAN, and Aria.Compensation & BenefitsApex offers a range of supplemental benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other insurance plans that offer an optional layer of financial protection.
