Mechanical Design Engineer
Air-Flo Manufacturing is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with 3+ years of experience to design and develop complex assemblies for demanding applications across industries including construction and refuse. In this role, you will help create and improve equipment such as dump bodies, hoists, trash packers, dump trailers, and other truck-mounted and trailer-based products. This is an opportunity to contribute to practical, durable equipment built for real-world performance, reliability, and manufacturability.Key Responsibilities• Design and develop complex mechanical assemblies and components for dump bodies, hoists, trash packers, dump trailers, and related equipment.• Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials to support manufacturing and assembly.• Collaborate with production, purchasing, and other internal teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable.• Evaluate existing products and recommend design improvements for performance, durability, safety, and ease of service.• Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous product improvement initiatives.• Apply sound engineering principles, material selection, and fabrication knowledge to heavy-duty equipment design.• Work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining design quality.• Provide insight for process improvement.• Conduct design reviews and document change requests.• Create parts diagrams for use in service manuals.Qualifications• 3+ years of mechanical design engineering experience, preferably in manufacturing, truck equipment, heavy equipment, or related industries.• Experience designing welded structures, fabricated components, and complex assemblies.• Proficiency with CAD software and engineering drawing creation. • Knowledge of Creo Parametric (Pro-E) and Windchill preferred.• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.• Ability to solve design challenges in practical, production-focused environments.• Strong communication and collaboration skills with both engineering and shop-floor teams.• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and motivated to design equipment that performs reliably in demanding environments.
