Automation & Controls Technician
Wisconsin Whey Protein (WWP) is a dairy processing facility specializing in high-quality whey protein and dairy ingredients. Our operation relies on automated process and utility systems to support safe, efficient, and reliable production.
Wisconsin Whey Protein is seeking an Automation & Controls Technician (2nd Shift) to support and troubleshoot automation, controls, and electrical systems within our Darlington, WI facility. This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving issues in existing automation systems and providing technical support to the maintenance team to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree or technical certification in Automation, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or related field preferred
- Equivalent hands-on industrial experience will be considered
- 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or electrical maintenance preferred
- Experience in food or dairy processing environments is a plus
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and support PLC- and HMI-controlled equipment in a dairy processing environment
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and instrumentation issues on production and utility systems
- Support maintenance technicians with advanced electrical and automation troubleshooting
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and P&IDs
- Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance activities related to automation and controls
- Document troubleshooting actions, system issues, and corrective measures as required
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on uptime, safety, and reliability
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI software (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME/SE)
- Strong industrial electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Skills
- AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT experience
- Basic industrial networking knowledge
- VFD troubleshooting and parameter adjustment
- Instrumentation experience
- Understanding of food safety and sanitary design principles
Additional Information
- 2nd shift position
- Participation in an existing on-call rotation is required (details available upon request)
- No travel required beyond commuting to Darlington, WI
- Work location is on-site at the Wisconsin Whey Protein facility
