Founding Software EngineerMacro Automation StudioRaleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill AreaHybrid / In-PersonFull-time preferred, part-time consideredAbout Macro Automation StudioMacro Automation Studio (MAS) is building automation infrastructure for Android and mobile cloud environments. Our platform allows users and developers to control, automate, and run workloads across local and cloud-hosted Android devices. We are currently expanding our cloud infrastructure and building AI agents capable of interacting directly with Android applications and devices.MAS includes a cross-platform desktop application for Windows and macOS, cloud-hosted Android environments, APIs, SDKs, automation tooling, and infrastructure for managing devices at scale. We are a small, early-stage team, so this role will have significant influence over both the product and the technical direction of the company. The RoleI’m looking for an experienced software engineer who can work closely with me on the architecture and development of MAS.I’m a technical founder and still actively develop the product every day. I’m not looking for someone who simply wants to work through a queue of tickets. I want someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, can challenge decisions when they see a better approach, and is comfortable taking ownership of major parts of a system.A major focus of the role will be our Android/mobile cloud infrastructure, including orchestration of cloud-hosted Android environments, device communication, automation, AI agents, APIs, and scaling the platform as usage grows. You will also help us maintain and improve the Windows and macOS versions of MAS.What You'll Work On• Android and mobile cloud infrastructure• Cloud-hosted Android environments and device orchestration• AI agents that interact with Android applications and devices• AWS infrastructure and distributed systems• Python and TypeScript services and tooling• APIs and SDKs for controlling and automating devices• Containers and workload execution infrastructure• Windows and macOS desktop development• Performance, reliability, monitoring, and production debugging• Architecture and technical decisions as the platform scalesWhat I'm Looking For• Approximately 6-10+ years of professional software engineering experience• Strong software architecture and problem-solving skills• Strong experience with Python, TypeScript, or similar languages• Experience with AWS, cloud infrastructure, containers, or distributed systems• Experience designing and owning systems from development through production• Strong debugging skills and the ability to work through unfamiliar systems• Good communication and reliability• Comfortable working independently and communicating quickly when blocked• Interested in having substantial ownership in an early-stage companyEspecially Useful ExperienceExperience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:• Android, ADB, Android emulators, or mobile infrastructure• Cloud device infrastructure or device farms• AWS ECS, Fargate, EC2, networking, or similar infrastructure• Docker and container orchestration• AI agents or LLM-based application development• Cross-platform desktop applications• macOS development, packaging, signing, or debugging• Developer tools, APIs, or SDKs• Automation systemsStrong macOS experience is especially useful because most of my own background is on Windows.LocationI’m primarily looking for someone in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. The role will have flexibility to work remotely, but I want someone local so we can regularly work together in person. For a full-time position, I expect we would work together in person a few days each week.I’m also open to starting part-time if the person is a strong fit.CompensationCompensation will depend on whether the role is structured as part-time or full-time and on experience.Equity and company milestone bonuses are available for the right person. Why Join EarlyYou would be joining at a very early stage and working directly with me as the founder. You’ll have significant influence over the architecture, technical direction, and major product decisions, with the opportunity to take ownership of substantial parts of the platform as the company grows. If Android infrastructure, cloud systems, automation, and AI agents sound interesting to you, I’d like to talk.
