Construction Superintendent

The ideal candidate will be comfortable overseeing the entire operation of the construction site and collaborating with the Project management Team. They should be able to determine and address any risk areas in order to maintain the safety of workers. This candidate should be experienced in communicating project milestones with clients and other parties, and be able to establish a timeline for completion.

5+ years of experience in construction area - Construction Superintendent with strong project management and communications skills
Ability to read construction documents
Familiarity with regulatory construction standards
Required Skills
The Field Superintendent supervises field construction projects and ensures the work is completed on schedule, within budget, and quality meets or exceeds customer expectations. The Field Superintendent manages all trades and daily activities related to the project. The Superintendent engages and communicates effectively with design professionals, consultants and customers and effectively directs all subcontractors and other construction personnel in planning, coordinating, and safely executing work within the scope of the contract, budget and schedule.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION
Review and understand the contract requirements to the Owner, drawings, specifications, subcontractor scopes of work, and other documents to establish the scope of work
Execute project start-up tasks including:
Complete job set up checklist and coordinate with Project Manager (PM) and Assistant Project Manager (APM) to procure items necessary based on project specifics
Document existing conditions or issues prior to any deliveries or work commencing
Complete site logistics plan to identify job office location, barriers, fencing, signage, dumpster locations, material storage, a path of entrance and egress from site, designated smoking areas, etc.
Engage local municipality to fully understand inspection and certificate of occupancy process
Orchestrate a plan from the beginning of construction to completion of the project including accurately coordinating project construction activities for scheduling purposes
PLANNING AND EXECUTION
Advise the Project Manager of circumstances and issues that will have a significant impact on the project schedule
Work with Project Team, track job progress and job costs (Time and Material work)
Document issues and problems that have developed along with identification of the person(s) responsible for their resolution
Daily Job site Progress Reporting:
Ensure logs are completed accurately along with daily progress photos
Verify the accuracy of drawing plan measurements of floors, walls, ceilings, etc.
Identify discrepancies and take corrective action with the project team
TEAM AND PEER RELATIONSHIPS
Establish effective working relationships with Owner, Owner’s Rep, Building Manager, Building Engineer, foremen, and subcontractors
Chair weekly project construction meetings and discuss weekly work plans with subcontractors
Meet daily with subcontractors to ensure daily schedule and tasks are understood
SAFETY
Ensure that site is clean and organized
Continually enforce safety policies and procedures to include PPE, fall enforcement, etc.
Actively enforce all building regulations regarding noise, use of elevators, security, and tenant safety
Perform daily walk-offs if required by Client
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 5 years project supervision experience in commercial interiors, restaurant, retail, healthcare, and/or industrial new construction environments
Extensive knowledge of scheduling cost control, and safety procedures
Ability to travel as needed within Illinois
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Microsoft Project/Procore
PREFERRED
OSHA 30 Hour Certification
3 years minimum of Supervision for Core and Shell, New Construction, or Design-Build. 5-Year minimum for Interiors Projects.
