Land Research Specialist

Job Description *Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is looking for an experienced Land Research Specialist to fill a 3-year assignment in the Birmingham, Alabama area. This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary. Prefer local candidates. Requirements: Assignment Schedule: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote. Candidate must be willing to work onsite 4 days a week. Education: BS Degree required Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school strongly preferred License: Member of Alabama State Bar (active license) with a minimum of five year's experience preferred Experience: Minimum five (5) years' experience practicing law strongly preferred Prior experience involving real estate litigation strongly preferred Prior experience with drafting/negotiating of lease/license agreements preferred Experience with real estate laws, rules, and regulations Demonstrated knowledge of real estate practices and principles Job responsibilities: Assist in the management of the Company's owned lands and the protection of the Company's land rights Assist in the management and resolution of complex surveillance matters involving the Company's fee owned lands Negotiate/Draft complex commercial leases/licenses and/or certain legal provisions within governmental and non-profit leases/licenses, oftentimes negotiating with external counsel for commercial lessees/licenses Review, analyze, and provide input on proposed legislation that may impact the Company's landholdings Draft, review, analyze, and/or revise legal documents to protect the Company's lands, land rights, and/or draft legal documents to provide 3rd parties with the limited right of temporary access to Company lands Assist with management of property remediation and restoration, and assist with the recovery from responsible 3rd parties Assist the Team Leader with the management and oversight of litigated matters involving Company lands and land rights Skills: Ability to think strategically, be innovative, and implement tactically, while making timely decisions Strong interpersonal & negotiation skills to effectively deal with internal and external business partners/stakeholders while balancing the legal, ethical, and political considerations to represent the Company's best interest Must model "Our Values" (Safety, Inclusion, Integrity, and Performance) and display strong teamworking skills Is this position supporting a government-related project?
