ROLE OVERVIEW And PURPOSEThe Oral Surgeon or Exodontist works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare (NHC) by providing outpatient oral surgery services to patients (treating conditions, defects, and injuries of the mouth, gums, teeth, jaw). This role will perform more complex tooth extraction procedures which may even include removing impacted teeth. This role may also perform biopsy and tumor or cyst removal of the jaw and mouth. These procedures are based on in-house dental diagnostic assessments/consults and corresponding/appropriate treatment plans. In addition, this role will include appropriate follow-up care, impart health education information (including risks, benefits, alternatives), share relevant techniques with patients, as well as advising patients on post-surgery dental care, and prescribing suitable pain-relief medication.ResponsibilitiesDirect Patient CareConducts, develops, and/or confirms suitable individualized in-house oral surgery diagnosis and care plan based on dental conditionsReviewing patients' medical history and discussing their symptoms and concernsUtilizing dental instruments and appropriate imaging to determine the cause of patients' pain and discomfortProvides appropriate oral surgery services, in compliance with standard of carePerform more complex tooth extraction procedures which may even include removing impacted teethPerform biopsy and tumor or cyst removal of the jaw and mouthRidge preservation techniques (to be determined)Administer anesthesia services as appropriateAppropriate follow-up carePerforms dental procedures and services that are within the approved skills profile and/or scope of practiceObserves, assesses, and records patients’ symptoms, reactions, and treatment progressPrescribes medications and provides patients with pertinent medication instructions, as neededReasonably accepting of additional patients into the schedule, as feasibleAccommodates patients with urgent dental needs, including walk-ins, as feasibleCreating and maintaining a professional appearanceTeam SupportLead your team, dental assistants, hygienists, and other staff members to ensure smooth patient care and treatment coordinationWorks with dental team to facilitate prescription refills and paperwork completionProvides dental backup to NHC dental sites and clinicians, as needed and availableProvides supervision, consultations, instructions to Dental Assistants and other health care delivery team members in NHC dental sites, as neededServes as preceptor to dental and paraprofessional students placed with NHCParticipates in Morning HuddlesClinical AdministrationMinimizes rescheduling of patients; provides instructions if necessaryCompletes and submits daily billing to reflect accurate coding and charges of all services renderedWorks with management on improving efficiency, patient flow, program development, and revenuesMaintains necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirementsAssists management with employee evaluations for the Dental PSRs or Dental Assistants or others, as neededParticipates in audits, peer reviews, patient satisfactions, protocol developments, meetings, and in-servicing trainings as available and appropriateContributes to the success of NHC by participating in quality improvement activitiesCompletes legible and legally defensible dental recordsEducation/ExperienceDoctorate degree in Dental Medicine (DMD) or Dental Surgery (DDS) from an accredited school - requiredCertificate from an accredited post-doctoral US Oral Surgery Residency Program – required for oral surgeonsProven experience working as an Oral Surgeon or Exodontist - prefer a minimum 2 years of experience as a dental specialistValid CA Dental License - requiredValid DEA license requiredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) /CPR/AED certification - requiredExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsGood hand-eye conditionA patient and empathetic dispositionBilingual (English/Spanish) - preferredADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills And Abilities)Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing, and proofreading skillsAbility to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formKnowledgeable about and experience with principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgeryKnowledgeable about and experience with dental terminology and dental scienceKnowledgeable about and experience with theories, methods, and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatmentKnowledgeable of current principles, method, and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment Knowledge of ethical, and legal standards for the delivery of dental careKnowledgeable of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usageAbility to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patientsAbility to provides hands-on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility, and responsivenessAbility to perform in high volume and emergency situationsKnowledge of community-based dental environmentAbility to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standardsAbility to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneouslyExcellent planning and organizational abilityAbility to work as part of a team as well as independentlyAbility to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical mannerPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift/carry 25 lbs/weightAbility to stand for long periods of timeCOMPLIANCE (Safety & HIPPA)Follow all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediatelyMaintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practicesFollow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditionsUse appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environmentBe familiar with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exitsFollow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocolsMaintain privacy of all patient, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposesComply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligationsReport all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawfulNeighborhood Healthcare offers a generous benefit plan that includes: Partially company paid Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans. While this range represents the broader classification of the role, actual compensation will be based on several factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s overall knowledge, skills, and experience, market data and industry benchmarks, internal equity within the organization, Budgetary considerations and organizational needs. As a result, placement within the range is not guaranteed, and the full pay grade range may not be utilized.
