Senior Human Resources Manager
Our client, American Nuclear Insurers (ANI), is seeking a Senior Human Resources Manager to join their team. ANI is a small, profitable niche joint underwriting association providing nuclear liability and property insurance and reinsurance in the US and worldwide. Members of the association represent some of the largest insurance and reinsurance companies across the globe. With a family-oriented culture, ANI is a good fit for someone who wants to be professionally challenged while maintaining a flexible work-life balance.Position Summary:The Senior Human Resources Manager is responsible for administering a wide variety of human resource activities, including payroll and compensation, employee relations, benefits administration, employee handbook maintenance, employee engagement, and reporting under the supervision of the VP & CFO. In addition, this role also ensures compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefit laws and regulations.Duties and Responsibilities:Plan, direct and supervise all activities related to the administration of payroll and employee benefits programs, including:Payroll related functions – Oversee and assist the current Accounting team with the bi-weekly payroll process through Paylocity system, coordinate and calculate company leave benefits in conjunction with state paid lead benefits, review monthly payroll and payroll accrual journal entries, review contributions and loan repayments for 401k plan and supplemental thrift plan.Administer Employee Benefit Program – Review annual medical, dental, vision and other employee benefits available with VP & CFO and assist in choosing the best options from both an employee and budget perspective. Coordinate annual open enrollment process with benefits broker and verify/reconcile benefit elections in Paylocity system. Answer employee questions on benefits. In addition, coordinate with third party vendors on Thrift Plan, Pension Plan, Life Insurance and Retiree HRA programs including: enrollment changes, census data, benefit design and law changes.Compensation and Performance Management – Coordinate annual performance review process. Provide support to the VP & CFO in preparation of the compensation and benefit budget. Prepare annual Compensation Statements for staff and maintain personnel files.Compliance and ANI Employee Handbook – In conjunction with the VP, Legal Compliance, monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, recommend best practices and provide input for policy changes based on law changes, benchmarking with other companies, and maintaining ANI culture. Review policy changes with senior management and HR attorneys. Coordinate release of Handbook, training if needed on new policies, and track acknowledgements of staff.Employee Engagement – Lead employee engagement program by creating and promoting company events ranging from wellness activities to outings, social events and celebrations and other activities to bring employees together in ANI’s family atmosphere.Worker’s Compensation – Prepare payroll estimates for renewing worker’s compensation policy and coordinate audit and prepare supporting documentation.Recruitment – Assist in development of Job Descriptions, interview candidates, prepare offer letters, conduct background checks, and on-board new hires.Leave Management – Manage all leave requests, working with carrier when appropriate, and documenting necessary information for FMLA, ST/LT Disability, and CT Paid LeavePlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a complete listing of all activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this position. In addition, the ability to communicate orally on the telephone or in meetings is required.Position Location:This position is based out of ANI’s office in Glastonbury, CT.
