Teacher, Head Band Director (Grapevine High School)Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, Grapevine, Texas.Primary PurposeProvide students with outstanding learning experiences in music so they develop pedagogical and technical mastery, musical understanding, and a love of music. The director will encourage lifelong learning and participation in music beyond the middle and high school settings.QualificationsBachelor's degree or higher from an accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for teaching musicDemonstrated competency or potential as a head high school band directorSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to develop a program which is a major part of the school and communityAbility to create a positive band culture where all students are welcome and encouraged to pursue interests in and out of the bandAbility to work collaboratively with campus and district level teachers, administrators, and staffAbility to work collaboratively with a team of fine arts teachers at the campus and district levelAbility to work positively and collaboratively with parent support organizationsAbility to lead a team of highly motivated music teachersMust be able to recruit students to the program and instill a love of musicMust have high expectations of their own work and the work of their studentsAbility to instruct students and manage behavior in both small and large ensemblesStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of specific band pedagogy to include, but not limited to: wind and percussion instrument pedagogy, rehearsal techniques, conducting, ear training, counting systems, and music theoryKnowledge of marching band pedagogy to include, but not limited to: marching fundamentals, rehearsal techniques, choreography and color guardKnowledge of UIL and TMEA rules, entry requirements, and important dates and deadlinesKnowledge of curriculum, instruction, scope, and sequence in a band settingEnsure the proper use, maintenance, and tracking of the school's instrument, equipment, and music inventoryKnowledge of outside of school activities to enhance students' musical experiencesKnowledge of social media, Canva, Charms, and / or Smore, etc. preferredExperienceExperience as a high school head director or assistant director preferredSuccess in teaching UIL grade 5 and 6 literatureNotable performance and / or instruction experience in any of the following: TMEA, UIL, BOA, WGI, DCI, US Bands, etc.Major Responsibilities and DutiesMusical PerformanceOversee the overall band program to include marching band, concert bands, jazz bands, percussion ensembles, solo & ensemble, school musical orchestra, and private lesson programDirect the top concert ensembleAssist in the direction of all other ensemblesPresent high-quality large ensemble performances for the school and communityPresent high-quality large ensemble performances in accordance with the standards of UIL or selected festivals and contestsTeach sight-reading skills in accordance with the standards of UIL or selected festivals and contestsPresent high-quality solo and small ensemble performances for the school, community or selected festivals and contestsSupport students in All Region, Area, and State processInstructional StrategiesEffectively use instructional and rehearsal strategiesDevelop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as requiredPrepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning stylesPresent subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulationsPlan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assignedConduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activitiesWork cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)Work with other members of the band staff
