The post will be suitable for trainees who intend to further develop their paediatric, clinical, neonatal transport and R&D skills, and/or pursue a career as a specialist in Neonatal Medicine. The posts are available from ASAP for 12 months.Successful applicants will be involved in clinical care of a wide variety of infants as part of a tertiary surgical neonatal unit covering the North East of England. Our unit provides neonatal care to approximately 6000 deliveries per annum and around 3000 intensive care days as well as housing the fetal medicine service for the region. We are also the regional neonatal surgical unit. After a period of integrating into the team as part of the NICU registrar team, the appointee will be responsible for providing middle grade clinical cover for the Northern Neonatal transport service and delivering acute neonatal uplift within the northern neonatal network. There will also be opportunities within these responsibilities to pursue high quality, quality improvement projects, audit and research and development projects. The precise hours worked will need to be tailored to the needs of both the appointee and the department but will be fully compliant with current directives for resident doctors. All the above activities will be carried out under consultant supervision.Main duties of the jobAppointees will be provided with a consultant supervisor and expect to receive regular (3 monthly) clinical and personal appraisal and will also be encouraged to complete a personal development plan. There is an excellent daily teaching first thing in the morning. All doctors are encouraged to attend daily neonatal teaching in the unit.
