Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing specialized maintenance and construction equipmentMechanical aptitude is required.Skill in the operation of light to heavy equipmentMust have an excellent driving recordGood work and attendance records.Good interpersonal and organizational skills.Ability to prioritize jobs to minimize travel time with equipment.Ability to operate and safely load/unload medium to heavy equipment.Ability to drive a BREC Vehicle to perform essential functions of the jobAbility to work outside in various climatesAbility to work independently.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.Functions and DutiesEssential Functions/ and Duties:Operates various types of light to heavy equipment and trucks (see equipment).Cleans and prepares equipment for operations, i.e. wash, sweep, fuel up, check/add oils and lube.Digs ditches and maintain grades for pipe drainage.Performs construction on tennis courts, ball fields and other recreation sites, clearing underbrush and hauling debris.Ability to grade, dig and load debris for transport.Loads, unloads and hauls various minerals, i.e., dirt, sand, limestone, etc.This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. Coverage is effective immediately upon eligibility.RETIREMENT SYSTEM: BREC contributes 38.22% of each employee's salary to the City-Parish Employees' Retirement System. Employees contribute 9.5% of salary. All retirement contributions are tax-deferred. Employee contributions are maintained in individual accounts and are refunded if an employee leaves BREC prior to retirement eligibility. After 25 years of service, employees may be eligible for additional benefits through the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP).
