FT Medical Assistant - Surgery SchedulingGastroenterology East, P.A. & Endoscopy Center is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our growing outpatient gastroenterology practice. This role supports both clinical care and surgical scheduling operations, playing a key part in delivering a seamless, patient-centered experience in a fast-paced endoscopy environment.Since 2005, Gastroenterology East has provided evidence-based gastrointestinal care to patients across Eastern North Carolina. Located in Greenville's Medical District, our modern endoscopy center offers advanced outpatient procedures and is committed to improving access and health outcomes in an underserved community.Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant provides clinical, administrative, and scheduling support to physicians, nursing staff, and the operating room team. This role helps ensure efficient patient flow, procedure room readiness, and accurate surgical scheduling coordination, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and manage procedure rooms, including room turnover, cleaning, and supply stockingSupport patient flow to and from procedure rooms and assist with patient positioningAssist with patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practicePull and stage case materials in appropriate areasDemonstrate knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniqueMaintain quality, safety, and infection control standardsAdapt quickly to changing patient and procedural needsConsistently promote efficiency while exceeding patient and physician expectationsSurgical Scheduling & Administrative SupportSchedule all surgical procedures accurately and in a timely mannerObtain and enter required clinical and scheduling information from surgeons or schedulersMaintain awareness of departmental equipment and instrumentation limitationsCommunicate block time utilization and scheduling needs with the OR Director/AdministratorCoordinate special equipment, instrument, supply, and staffing requestsProofread and finalize daily surgical schedules prior to distributionCommunicate schedule changes to department leadership and team membersPrepare and distribute final surgical schedules for upcoming proceduresRefer scheduling conflicts or procedural concerns to the OR DirectorParticipate in BDP/QI initiatives and ongoing performance improvement activitiesCross-train in front desk operations, including Switchboard, Insurance Verification, and Check-InQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED requiredCurrent BLS certification requiredCompletion of Medical Assistant, CNA, or Patient Care Technician training programMinimum of 1 year of clinical or patient care experience preferredStrong organizational, planning, and multitasking skillsExcellent communication and customer service skillsAbility to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented environmentProfessional telephone etiquette and attention to detailWhat We OfferAs an organization, one way we care for our communities and each other is by providing a comprehensive benefits package that includes:Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage Life and AD&D coverage Availability of short- and long-term disability Flexible financial benefits including FSAs and HSAs 401(k) and access to retirement planning Paid holidays and vacation
