The Structural Steel Fabricator will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components and systems on ships and marine vessels. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of shipbuilding principles, be proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings, and possess excellent welding and metalworking skills.\nWe are seeking candidates who are available to work 1st shift (M-TH, 6am-4:30pm) or 2nd shift (M-TH, 4pm – 2:30am.) This role requires flexibility including weekends and overtime as business needs dictate.\nPay & Progression\nStart at $30.00/hour\nas a Fitter Entry and complete a 6-week paid training program\n($30–$32/hour) with certifications, classroom learning, and hands-on experience.\nProgression includes:\n\n\nFitter Experienced – $32.00/hour (internal advancement)\n\nLevel 1 – $37.54/hour (after passing training exam)\n\nLevel 2 – $40.88/hour (after 6 months at Level 1)\n\nAdditional benefits:\n\nAnnual increases per Boilermakers CBA\n10% shift differential for 2nd shift\nOvertime pay\n at time and a half or double time\n\nClear career path, strong earning potential, and paid training to support your growth.What You Will Be Doing\n\nInterpret and analyze technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine project requirements.\nFabricate and assemble structural components, such as bulkheads, frames, and hull sections, using various metalworking techniques and equipment.\nMeasure, cut, and shape metal components to precise specifications.\nInstall and fit components and systems, including ventilation ducts, and machinery supports, in accordance with project plans and specifications.\nPerform repairs and modifications to existing ship structures as needed.\nInspect work pieces and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.\nFollow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.\nCollaborate with other tradespeople, engineers, and project managers to ensure efficient project execution.\nMaintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.\n\nYour Background\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent.\nMust be a US citizen.\n+5 years of proven experience as a ship fitter or similar metal working role (iron working, structural steel, etc.), within in a maritime or shipbuilding environment?\nProficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.\nFamiliarity with shipbuilding materials, tools, and equipment.\nKnowledge of shipbuilding principles and practices.\nAttention to detail and precision in workmanship.\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team.\nGood communication and interpersonal skills.\nAbility to work in a physically demanding environment and lift heavy objects.\nVocational training or certification in metalworking, welding, or ship fitting.\nPrevious experience in marine construction, ship repair, or shipbuilding.\nKnowledge of marine regulations and classification society standards.\nFamiliarity with shipyard safety practices and procedures.\n\nThe Work Environment at Rhoads\nThe performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.\nWhat Rhoads Can Offer You\nAt Rhoads Industries, our team is the foundation of our success.
