Day-to-Day:The Ambulatory Chemotherapy Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized, high‑quality nursing care to adult oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive infusions in an outpatient setting. This role is responsible for the safe administration of oncology treatments, ongoing patient assessment, symptom management, patient education, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary oncology care team. The RN plays a critical role in delivering compassionate, patient‑centered care while maintaining strict adherence to clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Patient Assessment & Clinical CarePerform comprehensive nursing assessments, including medical history, physical assessment, and treatment readiness prior to infusion.Assess, access, and maintain vascular access devices including peripheral IVs, implanted ports, and PICC lines.Monitor patients throughout infusion and post‑treatment for adverse reactions, complications, or changes in condition; intervene promptly using established protocols.Provide symptom management and supportive care in alignment with oncology best practices.Treatment AdministrationSafely prepare and administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive medications per provider orders and organizational policy.Adhere to hazardous drug handling standards and infection prevention protocols.Verify treatment orders, dosing, and patient identifiers in accordance with safety requirements.Documentation & ComplianceAccurately document assessments, medication administration, patient responses, and education in the electronic medical record (EMR).Ensure compliance with institutional policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards.Patient Education & SupportEducate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, potential side effects, symptom reporting, and self‑care strategies.Provide emotional support, counseling, and advocacy throughout the patient’s treatment journey.Reinforce understanding of medications, follow‑up care, and available supportive resources.Collaboration & Care CoordinationCollaborate closely with oncologists, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and ongoing clinical education activities.Communicate effectively to ensure coordinated, seamless patient care across the oncology continuum.
