Maintains patient and service rooms in a clean and orderly condition. Assists with the preparation of the room and equipment for diagnostic procedures. Participates in the orientation process of new employeesJob Responsibilities:Patient Care Delivery- The nurse aide delivers basic nursing care to provide forthe care and comfort needs of the patient.Responds to patient's call lights promptly to determine patient's needs and relaysinformation to appropriate nursing personnel.Observes the patient and reports any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in atimely manner.Assists the patient in the activities of daily living- nourishment, ambulation, personalhygiene, toileting.Adapts care delivery to meet the individual needs of the patient.Provides direct nursing care to patients by performing such tasks as vitalsigns/weight, complete/partial baths, skin care, Foley catheter care, enemas andspecimen collection in compliance with policy/procedure.Demonstrates proper turning, positioning and transferring techniques when providing patient care.Distributes patient nourishment, assists with feeding as indicated, collects trays at theend of the meal.Estimates amount of food/fluid consumed by patient at each meal from the tray andrecords the data on the flow sheet, Intake & Output record, or Calorie Count Sheet.Maintains a clean, safe and organized patient environmentMonitors and maintains the service rooms in an orderly manner. Prepares equipmentto be returned to Central Service.Identifies the patient prior to care delivery by checking the identification arm bandRecognizes safety hazards and acts promptly and appropriately.Completes patient rounds on a regular basis to monitor for patient safety.Utilizes proper body mechanics and safety measures during the transferring or liftingof patients or equipment.Demonstrates compliance with the measures outlined in the Falls Prevention ProgramAccepts care assignments willingly and goes to other units when requiredResponds to fluctuation in workload by helping to complete tasks of another staffmember.Willingly completes various errands as requested.Interacts effectively with the staff on the unit and in other departments.Works collaboratively with management to improve the environment of care forpatients, family and personnel.Seeks out and utilizes the Nurse Manager and Nursing Administrative Supervisor toaddress issues that require their assistance to resolve.Participates in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices andsupports measures to improve practice.Attends and participates in educational programs offered in the hospital to maintaincompetence.Complies with staff meeting attendance requirements.Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or GEDBLS certification (AHA only) and first aid training.De-escalation training provided on job.Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the patient's plan of care and to record data on the patient's medical recordAbility to perform simple arithmetic calculations at an elementary school level in order to take and record the patient's weight, vital signs, I & OInterpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversityBasic analytical skills in order to gather data, complete comparisons, interpret, & report outcomes to the nurse or document on the medical record.Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneouslyMust possess excellent customer service skillsNYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk provides its staff with far more than just a place to work.
