Soundness Technician - 2nd and 3rd ShiftDo you have a mechanical aptitude and a quality background? Harrison Steel has an opening on second shift in its quality department for a soundness technician. This position is responsible for nondestructively inspecting the internal parts of steel castings to ensure they will hold up to the hundreds of tons of weight their vehicles are designed to move. This position uses both gamma ray and ultrasonic testing methods to check the internal soundness of a casting. Essential duties of a soundness technician include:
Gamma rays castings in priority order
Logs daily utilization of equipment and daily utilization of radiation source
Ultrasonically tests castings when required per specification
Starts up, operates, shuts down, cleans, maintains and replenishes chemicals for all equipment used for RT and UT
Qualifications and Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude
Good problem solving skills and knowledge of safety practices
High level of personal accountability
Previous quality experience is preferred
High school diploma or GED
Ability to pass a Nuclear Regulatory Commission background check
Work Environment:
The employee is regularly exposed to the risk of radiation. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and fumes or airborne particles, and is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Also exposure to outdoor weather conditions, non-weather related extreme cold, water and humidity, and the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The usual noise level is very loud. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
