Structural Steel Production Supervisor - Evening ShiftLocation: Richmond, VAShift: 2nd ShiftEmployment Type: Direct HireCompensation: Starting at $32.00/hour+ (based on experience and technical background)Position OverviewA high-production steel manufacturing environment is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Production Supervisor to lead second-shift fabrication operations. This role is responsible for overseeing shop workflow, supporting production efficiency, and ensuring fabrication activities are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.The ideal candidate will bring hands-on structural steel fabrication experience along with strong leadership skills and the ability to support welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel in a fast-paced setting.Core ResponsibilitiesProduction Oversight & Workflow CoordinationSupport execution of daily fabrication schedules and production objectivesSupervise second-shift shop activities involving welders, fitters, machine operators, and support personnelAssign and adjust workloads to maintain productivity and operational efficiencyMonitor shop workflow and make real-time decisions to support production timelinesCoordinate priorities to minimize bottlenecks and maximize throughputTeam Leadership & Technical SupportProvide guidance related to welding, fabrication layout, blueprint reading, and shop proceduresAssist team members in troubleshooting fabrication or fit-up issuesReinforce safety expectations, production standards, and operational proceduresSupport training, mentoring, and development of fabrication staffQuality & Safety ComplianceWork closely with quality personnel to ensure fabricated products meet AISC standards and project specificationsMaintain a safe, organized, and efficient fabrication environmentSupport ongoing improvements related to workplace safety and production qualityEnsure adherence to company policies and manufacturing best practicesEquipment & Shop OperationsCoordinate with maintenance teams to reduce equipment downtime and maintain production flowMonitor fabrication equipment performance and report operational concerns as neededSupport efficient use of fabrication machinery and shop resourcesAdministrative & Operational SupportAssist with onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance feedback for shop personnelSupport documentation, time tracking, and employee accountability processesParticipate in staffing and recruitment efforts for fabrication operationsContribute to continuous improvement initiatives across shop operationsMinimum QualificationsStrong background in structural steel fabrication, welding, and fabrication layoutExperience working with CNC fabrication equipment and related shop machineryUnderstanding of manufacturing workflows, safety practices, and quality control proceduresAbility to work effectively within a team-oriented production environmentStrong communication, leadership, and organizational skillsFlexibility to work overtime or weekends as production demands requireHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredPreferred ExperiencePrevious leadership or supervisory experience within fabrication or manufacturing operationsTechnical certification, trade school training, or associate degree in a related fieldFamiliarity with AISC fabrication standards and structural steel production workflowsWhy Consider This Opportunity?This role offers the opportunity to step into a key leadership position within a growing fabrication environment where hands-on expertise, production leadership, and operational problem-solving directly contribute to shop performance and project success.We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
