Structural Steel Fabrication Supervisor - 2nd ShiftLocation: Richmond, VAShift: 2nd ShiftJob Type: Direct HirePayrate Starting at $32.00/hour+ depending on experiencePosition OverviewA growing steel fabrication operation is seeking an experienced fabrication leader to oversee second-shift production activities within a structural steel manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for supporting shop operations, supervising fabrication personnel, and helping ensure production schedules, quality standards, and safety expectations are consistently achieved.This opportunity is ideal for someone with strong hands-on fabrication knowledge who can lead teams effectively while supporting production efficiency and quality performance.Core ResponsibilitiesProduction Leadership & Workflow CoordinationCollaborate with shop leadership and department personnel to support production schedules and delivery timelinesSupervise fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel during daily operationsAssign workloads and adjust manpower distribution to maximize efficiency and outputMonitor workflow progress and make adjustments based on changing priorities or production demandsTeam Support & Technical GuidanceProvide hands-on support to fabrication personnel regarding layout, welding, fabrication techniques, and drawing interpretationAssist team members in resolving fabrication-related issues and production challengesPromote safe work practices and reinforce adherence to company safety and quality proceduresFoster open communication by providing constructive feedback and supporting employee developmentQuality & Safety OversightPartner with Quality Control personnel to ensure fabrication activities meet required AISC quality standardsReinforce compliance with shop safety policies, procedures, and operational expectationsHelp maintain a productive and organized work environment focused on safety and workmanshipEquipment & Operational SupportCoordinate with maintenance personnel to help minimize equipment downtime and support production continuityMonitor fabrication equipment performance and communicate operational concerns proactivelyAdministrative & Leadership SupportAssist shop leadership with employee training, onboarding, evaluations, and workforce development activitiesSupport timekeeping reviews, disciplinary documentation, and employee-related discussions as neededParticipate in interviewing prospective fabrication personnel when requiredPerform additional responsibilities as assigned to support shop operationsRequired QualificationsStrong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding processes, layout methods, and material handling practicesExperience working with CNC fabrication equipment and production machineryUnderstanding of production efficiency, safety standards, quality requirements, and cost-control practicesAbility to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environmentStrong verbal and written communication skillsWillingness to work overtime and Saturdays when production demands require itHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredPreferred BackgroundPrevious leadership or supervisory experience within a fabrication or manufacturing environmentTechnical certifications or an associate degree in a related fieldFamiliarity with AISC fabrication quality standards and structural steel production workflowsWhy Consider This Opportunity?This position offers the chance to take on a leadership role within a production-focused fabrication environment where teamwork, craftsmanship, and operational efficiency are highly valued.
