Production Artist
Position OverviewOur company is searching for a reliable, detail-oriented and self-motivated Production Artist with a can-do attitude. We are looking for someone who takes pride in staying on schedule, working efficiently, and exemplifying cleanliness, craftsmanship and organization. The candidate will be responsible for on-site prep-work, painting and finishing work. They are expected to make timely, organized deliveries, run necessary errands, pick-up materials and purchases, and load/unload the company cargo van. In the studio, they will perform tasks such as color mixing, canvas prep, creating giant transfers, and creating sample boards, among other studio duties. The ideal candidate should be capable of basic mural painting, with the abilities to transfer designs, match colors, blend colors, and paint graphics and lettering with clean lines and excellent craftsmanship. Finally, the candidate should be professional, kind and ego-less, and be capable of collaborating, communicating and working well with clients and teammates. Work is done in two studios (one in Lake Balboa and one Downtown Los Angeles). Work is also done on location around Greater Los Angeles. And some long-distance travel is required.Duties include, but are not limited to:Job Site Prep and Painting WorkDeliveries: Transport equipment/materials safely to and from job sites and studios, with secured and safely tied-down cargo materialsCustomer Service: Treat clients kindly and professionally, with great communication and respect for their spaces and belongingsPrepare job sites: Move furniture, excellent taping/masking, set up/organize materials, scaffolding, equipment, etc.Prep-work: Power-washing, repairs, patching, masking, rolling/brushing/spraying primer, paint, etc.Finishing work: Apply varnishes and clear coats, remove/clean masking, paint toss-ups, clean up, load materialsPhotography/Videography: When job is complete, take quality photos and videos of final work for marketing purposesCanvas Installs: Assist with hanging & installing large canvases (like wallpaper)Comfortable with heights: Set up and work on scaffolding, lifts, swing-stages, ladders, planks, rooftops, etc. (will be trained)Innovation: Always be improving, and asking oneself how to perform duties faster, better and at greater qualityArtwork: Help artists with transferring designs, stencils, color blocking, sign painting, color mixing, blending, faux finishing, artwork, etc.Help Where Needed: Perform any duties needed to ensure projects are completed efficiently, beautifully, accurately and on-timeStudio - Main DutiesPaint Mixing. Hand-mix paints for accurate colors and quantitiesSample Boards. Prepare and create sample boards, with a willingness to research and learn new techniques and productsPurchasing. Purchase materials and paints, as neededCanvas Prep. Cut, hang and prepare stretched canvases, mural canvas, wood panels, and other substrates or materials need for projectsExperience working with saws and power tools, with some light woodworking and handy-workVan Maintenance. Care for the company vehicle, performing regular maintenance check/oil changes/fuel/organization/cleanlinessCommunication: Communicate well with other team members, to ensure smooth workflow and sites have what they needTask Lists: Ability to follow instructions, take on a variety of different tasks, shift gears quickly, and keep the workday organized/efficientClean: Ongoing cleaning and organization in the studios, including paint/chemical/trash removal, etc.Studio - Other DutiesFile prep. Prepare and organize digital files, designs, references, transfers, vector drawings, stencils, prints and more for production.Transfers. Create transfers, including perforations, stencils, to-scale prints, projections, etc. Label well for clear organization/communicationStaging. Collect, organize and check off materials and equipment to be sent to jobs, ensuring accuracy, and ensuring equipment and materials are in good working order for comprehensive deliveries.Restocking. When materials and equipment are returned to the studio, check for and solve for missing items, dispose of and replace broken items, clean materials and equipment as needed, and restock efficiently and in an organized fashion.Organization. Maintain clean and organized studios, sheds, yard, garage and stock, adhering to labeling and inventory systems, keeping tools in good working order, equipment charged, replacing broken equipment, properly disposing of expired/unusable product, and keeping shelves and sheds stocked.Computer Maintenance. Maintain organized digital and paper document filing in-line with company standards, and keep computers up-to-date with clean and organized hard drives and cloud-based drives.Photo & Video Uploads. Maintain and charge/prepare digital recording equipment, including SD cards, Go-pros, gimbals, batteries, microphones, tripods, etc; and upload photos and videos from Go-pro, drone, personal phone/camera and other shared equipment.Other Studio Duties.
