Our actions are guided by a commitment to fairness, openness, and the belief that our differences are what make us stronger as a whole.Position OverviewThe Department of Education at Southwestern University invites applications for a part-time Instructor/Adjunct Professor to teach The Child and the Curriculum in Early Childhood Education in Spring 2027. This course introduces early childhood pedagogy, curriculum, and settings. Students examine typical and atypical development, play development, and culturally responsive, play-based strategies. The course emphasizes curriculum choices across content areas (math, science, art, music, theatre, PE, health) and requires students to plan, present, and evaluate lessons aligned with developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).A directed observation and participation component in early childhood classrooms (up to 2 hours per week) is integral to the course. The successful candidate will be prepared to connect child development theory to instructional design, assessment, and classroom practice in early childhood contexts.QualificationsMaster’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Curriculum & Instruction (EC), Special Education (EC), or a closely related fieldPh.D./Ed.D. preferredDemonstrated teaching expertise in early childhood curriculum, DAP, play-based learning, and culturally responsive practiceExperience supporting lesson design and delivery across multiple content areas in early childhood settingsFamiliarity with TEKS and early childhood field-based supervision/observation practicesAdditional InformationTo apply, please submit:Cover letterCurriculum vitaeNames and contact information for two referencesSample lesson plan or syllabus excerpt demonstrating DAP + TEKS alignment (recommended)Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.Salary: $4,200 (terminal degree in-hand by January 1) or $3,900 (Master’s degree in-hand by January 1).
