Job DescriptionSALARY RANGE: $64,663.30 - $100,235.20Works under the direction of the Library Operations Administrator to manage the operations of multiple departments that make up Library Support Service. Leads efforts to promote the Library’s policies, goals, and objectives. Participates in formulating and implementing Library standard operating procedures, policy, goals, and strategic plans. Supervises agency managers to facilitate growth, development, performance, and productivity. Manages assigned agencies in terms of overall performance, service patterns, work output, and system efficiency. Administers and/or makes recommendations on personnel matters affecting subordinates, including providing work direction, assigning duties, interviewing, hiring, training, performance management, supervision, and disciplinary actions. Monitors and manages the physical condition and security of interior and exterior public areas and maintains safety and cleanliness standards. Submits reports of impairment, damages, safety, cleaning, maintenance, and security concerns. Serves as a member or chair on library, City, and community committees, councils, boards, and task forces to evaluate community needs and support the development of service and collaboration opportunities.. Initiates inter-region and inter-agency cooperative efforts to support and enhance operation and service. Develops, implements and oversees new services, innovations, concepts, and techniques to improve the quality, productivity and variety of library services. Performs research, designs measurement tools, and conducts user studies to determine the efficiency of library operation and services. Prepares, creates, and submits various reports and records as required. Collaborates with community groups to enhance community engagement. Participates in professional and community organizations to market library services and benchmark information related to future service improvements. Visits and attends various libraries and other locations around the City for meetings, workshops, and training seminars. Participates on or chairs library or other City or community committees.ResponsibilitiesPerforms additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.Typical Physical DemandsMust be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to use photo equipment, a computer, copier, telephone and other office equipment. Requires the ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance.Typical Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office environment. May travel to various meetings and events throughout the City. May be required to possibly work nights/weekends and/or working outdoors in all types of weather.QualificationsMaster’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school or master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field and seven (7) years of experience in library operations with five (5) of the seven (7) years in a managerial supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. Experience in a large public library agency preferred.
